It's been 45 years since Penn State last had to conduct a coaching search, so you'll have to excuse the school if it's a bit rusty when it comes to the process. So not surprisingly, it seems the school is approaching a type of safety in numbers approach to the process as acting athletic director Dave Joyner announced on Monday that the school has put together a six person search committee charged with finding a new head coach.
Joyner will head the committee and be joined by Linda Caldwell, Penn State’s faculty athletics representative; Charmelle Green, Associate AD and Senior Woman Administrator; John Nichols, an emeritus professor who chairs the Coalition on Intercollegiate Athletics; Ira Lubert, a member of the University’s Board of Trustees and Russ Rose, the Nittany Lions’ head volleyball coach.
Joyner said the committee will meet for the first time this week.
Former Penn State head coach Joe Paterno, who was first hired as head coach in 1966, was fired earlier this month in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal at the school.
