Colorado center Mike Iltis retiring

Posted by Tom Fornelli

The offseason of attrition continues in Boulder, as center Mike Iltis has decided to retire from football before his senior season, according to the Daily Camera. Iltis tore the ACL, MCL and meniscus in his left knee in Colorado's final game of the season against Nebraska. It was the second major knee injury of his career; he tore the ACL in his right knee in 2008.

According to coach Jon Embree, Iltis' decision is based more on focusing on academics than his injuries.

Iltis, who was expected to be Colorado's starting center this season, is the 18th player with eligibility remaining to leave the program this offseason. Some left on their own, others weren't asked back and several have stopped due to medical issues.

Iltis will most likely be replaced by fellow senior Shawn Daniels or redshirt freshman Daniel Munyer
