Brantley out of game with apparent knee injury

As also reported by CBSSports.com RapidReporter Lyle Fitzsimmons, Florida starting senior quarterback Jeff Brantley left his team's game against Alabama late in the first half with an apparent knee injury. And according to offensive coordinator Charlie Weis, he will not return, having departed on a golf cart.

On 3rd-and-20 deep inside Crimson Tide territory, Brantley was sacked by Alabama's Courtney Upshaw and had his right knee buckle awkwardly underneath him. Brantley immediately clutched the knee and was unable to get up under his own power. He was helped directly to the locker room, without a visit to the sideline, with less than 30 seconds remaining in the half. Head coach Will Muschamp said as he left the field he had no immediate knowledge of Brantley's potential status.

Save for one ill-advised short throw that Upshaw intercepted and returned 45 yards for a touchdown, Brantley had been impressive, completing 11 of his 16 passes against one of the nation's best secondaries. The first of those completions was a 65-yard touchdown to Andre Debose on the Gators' first play from scrimmage.

Brantley will be replaced by true freshman backup Jeff Driskel. Driskel has thrown 10 passes in his young career, completing 5 of them with 2 interceptions.

At halftime, Florida trailed the Tide 24-10.
