Death or Mountaineers football?

Posted by Tom Fornelli

People love college football.  A lot.  I know this as a fact because I, along with Adam and Chip, are incredibly passionate about the sport, which is why we do this.  Still, I don't know if it's the most important thing in my life.  I'm not married, but if I were, I'd probably keep my wife higher on my list of priorities than any college football game.

Some people, though, see things differently.  Take Larry Kirby of North Charleston, South Carolina.  Larry is a big West Virginia Mountaineers fan who recently lost his wife at the early age of 58.  Now Larry must deal with the grief of losing one of the most important people in his life, but only if it doesn't interfere with the Mountaineers game against Maryland this Saturday.

From Joan Kirby's obituary , the emphasis added is my own:

Joan Renee Kirby, 58, wife of Larry Kirby, of N. Charleston, SC, died Tuesday, September 14, 2010. Friends and family are invited to a visitation at Parks Funeral Home, in Summerville, SC, Saturday afternoon, September 18, 2010, from 4 - 6 o'clock so that there won't be a conflict with the West Virginia Mountaineers football game. Burial will be held at a later date.

I don't even want to know what's going to happen should the game go into overtime.  The 4pm start is only four hours after kickoff in Morgantown and college games routinely run north of three and a half hours.  Seems to me Mr. Kirby is cutting it awfully close for comfort.

As for when the burial will be, I don't have any inside info, but I'd guess it'll be on October 2 seeing as how that's West Virginia's next bye week.
