Clemson wide receiver Joe Craig's suspension for an altercation with a track teammate in May is no longer indefinite, as head coach Dabo Swinney announced Thursday that the redshirt freshman would miss the first three games of the season.
Craig rejoined the team on Thursday, and will be allowed to practice during the suspension. He was suspended from team activities for the summer workout period after an on-campus incident with a female track teammate, identified as his girlfriend at the time. Neither side pressed charges from the alleged attack, but Swinney awaited due process from the university before clearing the speedy wideout.
Craig was a 200m and 100m state champion in Gaffney, SC and participated as a sprinter for the Tigers' track team before his suspension. He joins a talented group of young wide receivers, highlighted by sophomore DeAndre Hopkins and standout freshmen Sammy Watkins and Charone Peake. His three game suspension will conveniently bring him back to the field in time for the Tigers' showdown with Florida State in Death Valley on Sept. 24. He will miss Troy, Wofford, and rematch against Auburn while serving the suspension.
