Hoke named Maxwell Club's Coach of the Year

Posted by Tom Fornelli

If Brady Hoke is still trying to seal the deal with a couple of recruits this week before signing day on Wednesday, he just found some more ammo to convince them that Michigan is the place they want to play.

The Maxwell Football Club, which wants you to know it's the oldest football club in America -- maybe there's an American football club in Tanzania that's older -- announced on Monday that Brady Hoke had been named its coach of the year for 2011.

"Coach Hoke has engineered a tremendous turnaround in the Michigan football program in just one year and it was obvious that his team improved each week," said Maxwell Club executive director Mark Wolpert in a release. "It is quite an accomplishment to compile an 11-2 record playing a rigorous Big Ten schedule in his first year at the helm. Coach Hoke has set the tone for a high degree of future success for the Michigan program."

Hoke did lead quite the turnaround in Ann Arbor this season, taking Michigan from a 7-6 mark in 2010 to an 11-2 record in 2011, including a win over Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl. Hoke became the third coach in history to win a BCS bowl game in his first season as a head coach.

He's also the third Michigan coach to be given this award by the Maxwell Club, along with Lloyd Carr and Bo Schembechler
