VIDEO: Spurrier refuses to speak around columnist

Posted by Chip Patterson

South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier started his weekly news conference in an unusual way on Tuesday. Ol' Ball Coach did not take a seat in front of the assembled media, but instead started by pacing in front of the group and describing his distaste for a certain member of the media.

The media member was Ron Morris, columnist for The State. Morris has penned several critical pieces about the Gamecocks coach in recent weeks, but Spurrier specifically cited a column last spring for his reason for taking exception. Spurrier was accused of recruiting Bruce Ellington away from the basketball program, something he deemed as "a completely fabricated story."

Spurrier never mentioned Morris by name, but instead referred to him as "negative guy" and pointed in his direction multiple times during his explanation. He offered to do one-on-one interviews with the television media, then return to the writers room to discuss Gamecocks football with writers not named Ron Morris.

Check out the video below. Do you think Spurrier was justified in his actions? Speak up in the comment section below or let us know on Twitter.
