Hokies kick their way past Eagles 19-0

Posted by Chip Patterson

The Hokies may have been without starting running back Ryan Wiliams, but they still found ways to score against Boston College in Chestnut Hill on Saturday.  Kicker Chris Hazley converted all four of his attempted field goals, including one from 45 yards out, to lead Virginia Tech to the 19-0 win.

The Boston College defense held their end of the bargain for the Eagles, doing a great job of keeping the talent-loaded Hokies offense out of the end zone, but the offense was unable to execute all day.  Boston College starting quarterback Dave Shinskie was benched in the second half after only completing 11 fo 25 passes and turning the ball over twice.  Boston College made their way deep into Virginia Tech territory on two occasions in the first half, but one drive ended with a missed field goal and Shinskie threw an interception in the end zone on the other.

The Hokies snapped a two-game losing streat at Boston College, and Darren Evans' two yard touchdown run in the second quarter was the first offensive touchdown in Chestnut Hill since 2002.  While the national title hopes of preseason are long gone, it was a crucial win for the Hokies if they plan to make a run at the ACC Championship game.
