Laettner beats Kentucky again in charity game

By Matt Norlander

There were a lot of cool things about the Villains vs. Big Blue All-Stars charity game in Lexington last night, but the staged ejection of Christian Laettner had to be the best part.

To start with Laettner was booed heavily to start the night.

Not a packed house? A little shocked by that. UK fans: you're slacking! The game was as offensive-minded as you'd expect. The Villains ended up winning the game 152-149. Despite the fact the fix was in to get Laettner tossed, UK couldn't get the officials to tilt things in its favor. Former Wildcat Jodie Meeks scored 42, a game high. It had to feel good for him to put up that kind of offense without fearing reprimand from his coach.

The best highlight of the night came from Kenneth Faried, who didn't care about the apparent lack of defense that was anticipated. The Morehead State star sent back the soup on this first-half dunk attempt by Enes Kanter.

The game was organized by former 'Cat Jeff Sheppard and raised money for the V Foundation. I think it's one of the more brilliant ways of raising money and community morale in sports I've ever seen.

Check out the photo gallery from last night's game for a look at how busty Chuck Hayes has gotten in the NBA offseason.

Christian Laettner owes millions to NFL star

Posted by Eric Angevine

No, you're not accidentally at our NFL blog. That indeed is Shawne Merriman, and he's tied in to the college basketball world.

If I had to make a list of people I would never, ever under any circumstances want to owe money to, NFL star Shawne "Lights Out" Merriman would probably top said list.

What does this have to do with basketball? Try this on for size:

Buffalo Bills player Shawne Merriman will get $3.7 million from two former Duke basketball stars after a federal judge ruled in his favor in a loan dispute.

A federal court judge in Maryland ordered Christian Laettner and Brian Davis to pay Merriman in December.

According to court documents Merriman said he loaned Laettner and Davis $3 million for their real estate business in 2007, but the pair failed to pay back all the money and interest as required to in 2009. Laettner and Davis claim in court documents there were problems with the agreement.

And here we thought foreclosure or bankruptcy might be the worst thing that could happen to someone caught on the wrong side of the real estate bubble. Turns out it could be this:
