They may be light on the star ratings coming out of high school but Boise State’s 2011 recruiting class is heavy on accomplishments. The Broncos announced that they signed 19 players to a letter of intent, many of whom were named to various all-state or all-county teams.
The majority of the class is composed of linemen, three on each side of the ball. Boise State’s elevated profile the past few years is evident in where the student-athletes hail from, eight from California, four from Texas and one from Oregon, Washington and Canada.
Junior college kicker Dextrell Simmons transfers in from Blinn Junior College. In what might be taken as a good sign for Broncos fans, Simmons played on the same Blinn junior college team as the reigning Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton. Perhaps some of Newton's luck rubbed off.
Boise State also said three players were brought in as grayshirts and will be part of the 2010 signing class.
The Broncos open the 2011 season against Georgia on September 3rd.
