Boise State ahead of the game, grab 2013 commit

We're getting closer to the halfway point to National Signing Day, and while most of the schools are focusing in on their 2012 classes, Boise State is proving it's scouting even farther ahead than that, picking up a commitment from class of 2013 Fruitland (Idaho) athlete Joe Martarano.

"I left it up to Joe. I said, 'You can sit this thing out and ride out the recruiting process,'" his father, Victor Martarano, told The Idaho Statesman. "He said, 'I want to play for Boise State.' And he was lucky enough to have Boise State want him."

The elder Martarano played tight end at Boise State in the early 1990s, but it appears his son will play on the opposite side of the ball for the Broncos as a linebacker. Joe was receiving interest from Washington State and held a baseball scholarship offer from Utah

"I've been doing this gig for almost 35 years. Joe's one of those kids that comes along every 15 years. He's an exceptional kid," Martarano's coach, Bruce Schlaih, told the paper.

Martarano led his high school to state championships in football, baseball and basketball last season as a sophomore.
