This is more like it.
After a slow start to Texas' recruiting class of 2013 - including a noticable lack of any Junior Day commitments - the Longhorns have quickly ramped things up despite what should be a small class next year. Arlington (Texas) running back Kyle Hicks was the latest to say 'Hook'em,' committing to the program Saturday night.
"I just love the coaching staff. Coach (Major) Applewhite and me have a great relationship," Hicks told Orangebloods.com. "I've been talking to (Texas) every other day, getting to know them. I just see myself playing there, and I didn't want to pass it up."
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound back also held offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Michigan, Notre Dame and others but has seen his recruitment pick up as of late before settling on Texas. Hicks credits his relationship with the coaching staff in Austin and their pitch to use him all over the field as some of the key reasons why he decided to commit early.
"They said we all have our different styles of playing. They were saying I could be a wildcat back, work in different formations, things like that," he said. "Whatever they need. I'm just happy. I'll play hard, try to get W's for my team. Whatever they ask."
Hicks becomes the fifth commitment for Texas' class of 2013 and the first at running back. As a junior, he rushed for 1,685 yards and 28 total touchdowns.
