Ronnie Stanley commits to Notre Dame

By Stephen Spiewak

Ronnie Stanley, an offensive lineman from Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas), committed to Notre Dame this afternoon, in an announcement made at his high school.

Stanley chose the Irish over Arkansas and Nebraska.

He visited Notre Dame over the weekend, seemingly solidifying his decision.

The 6-foot-6, 280-pound Stanley played a key role in the success of Bishop Gorman this season, helping the Gaels to a 15-1 record and a Class 4A state title.

Stanley is the No. 15-ranked offensive tackle and the No. 117 recruit overall. He joins a Notre Dame class that is ranked No. 16 overall and features fellow offensive linemen Taylor Decker and Mark Harrell.

Notre Dame remains still hopes to land another premier offensive lineman, with eyes set on Arik Armstead and Josh Garnett.

Harrell heads to Notre Dame

Notre Dame continues to build their next recruiting class, adding to the 2012 edition Thursday night in Charlotte (N.C.) offensive tackle Mark Harrell.

“I know it’s the right one for me and I’m not going back on it,” Harrell told The South Bend Tribune.

The 6-foot-5, 270-pound Harrell is a big tight end in high school but will shift to tackle once he arrives in South Bend, similar to Irish 2011 signee Troy Niklas.

“A good, solid, down-the-line guy,” MaxPreps analyst Tom Lemming said of Harrell. “A solid prospect. Definitely a Notre Dame type of kid.”

Harrell unofficially visited the school twice before committing. He held offers from Michigan, Tennessee, Stanford, Clemson and North Carolina among others. He is the second offensive lineman for the Irish's class of 2012 and seventh commitment overall.

“I decided to pull the trigger,” he said. “I couldn’t wait any more.”

Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly has made recruiting offensive and defensive linemen a priority since taking over the reigns of the team. Harrell is the eighth line commitment in the past two classes on the offensive side.
