Arizona DE Avery Moss heads to Nebraska

PHOENIX -- Though the stage was set for some of the nation's best to make the commitments on national television at the Semper Fidelis Bowl, a local player also got his moment in the sun. Playing high school football just a few miles from Bank One Ballpark, Tempe (Ariz.) defensive end Avery Moss committed to Nebraska during the 4th quarter of the all-star game.

"I'm going to be taking my talents down to Nebraska," Moss told CBS Sports Network reporter Molly Qerim. "Great academics and shout out to Coach J.P."

The 6-foot-4, 250-pound end was also considering Arizona and Purdue on top of scholarship offers from plenty of schools across the country. Maxpreps ranked him as one of the top defensive ends in the country.

"He looks like a basketball player playing football at times but has what it takes to become a remarkable pass rushing end," said analyst Tom Lemming. "Has huge hands, loves physical contact, shows a great burst, and just needs to add weight and strength and then look out. Has the length that the college scouts like to see in a pass rushing DE and he's a motivated, physical ball player."

Moss' pledge finally allows the Huskers to reach double-digits on their commitment list with 10. He is one of two defensive ends headed to Nebraska in the fall and is part of a growing pipeline from the Phoenix area to the heartland.
