Lightly recruited athlete commits to the Ducks

Competing - and winning - Pac-12 championships is something Oregon hopes to continue to do over the next few years under Chip Kelly but they're going to stick with the recruiting strategy that has gotten them there. The Ducks' success has largely been due to scouting under the radar players and not relying on five-star players to fill their roster. The program added another lightly recruited player over the weekend in Oakland (Calif.) athlete Terrance Daniel to give them nine commitments for 2012.

"They are a winning team and a good academic school," Daniel told Rivals. "I want to be a part of it."
The 6-foot-6, 220-pounder is being recruited to play defensive end of the ball by defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti. Daniel only held a scholarship offer from UNLV before Oregon offered and it was only a matter of time before he committed to a program he already had a connection with.

"One of my good friends from middle school, Carlyle Garrick, plays up there," he told Scout. "It's a great team and a great program with a great coach. When I was on the phone with Coach Kelly, I was smiling the whole time. It was like a dream come true."

Since he has not visited Eugene, his commitment is not official due to Kelly's policy of not accepting a verbal commitment until a recruit visits campus. Daniel is looking at taking an official or unofficial visit soon.
