It came a little bit later than some other Pac-12 programs but Arizona is finally on the board for the class of 2012 and they did so in a familiar recruiting area for the team. The Wildcats added the verbal commitment of San Antonio (Texas) Josh Kern Tuesday as they continue to recruit the state well under head coach Mike Stoops.
“I always thought I was going to stay in Texas,” Kern told the Arizona Daily Star. “But when I went down for the spring game, I fell in love the campus. I was originally going to wait until the end of my spring ball to commit, but I didn’t want to lose this.”
Kern should join the team just as senior quarterback and Austin native Nick Foles leaves due to graduation. The 6-foot-5, 190 pound Kern grew up an Arizona fan thanks to the success of the basketball program under Lute Olson and now is headed to the school of his youth to play football.
“For some reason, I was always a big Arizona fan,” he said. “Funny how it happens.”
Kern threw for 1,020 yards and seven touchdowns and rushed for seven touchdowns as well.
