Floyd makes the call for Georgia

Posted by Bryan Fischer

There are plenty of ways a recruit can contact a coach to talk. He can Facebook them, direct message on Twitter, email them, send them a letter and, of course, call them. It's the last form of communication that the coaches like most, especially when the recruit has some good news for them.

Eastman (Ga.) athlete Leonard Floyd had some especially good news Thursday afternoon for Georgia head coach Mark Richt and assistant Scott Lakatos: he was a Bulldog.

"I chose Georgia over Alabama and Florida because of the coaching staff," Floyd told UGASports.com. "I get along with every one of them. I like the way Coach (Todd) Grantham gets his defense fired up, and the way he plans to use me on defense."

The 6-foot-5, 220-pound Floyd will head to Athens as an athlete but as he alluded to, will likely end up playing college football on defense.

"They said I could play tight end or outside linebacker for Georgia, so I will just choose which one I feel most comfortable with," he said. "It will likely be on defense though. I plan on having double digit sacks and touchdown catches this fall, and hopefully lead my team to a winning season."

Floyd caught 29 passes for 549 yards and 3 touchdowns on offense and had 81 tackles and 6 sacks on the other side of the ball.

“He’s ecstatic about it,” said Dodge County assistant Ricky Collins told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “He has been smiling at school all day. Everybody has been congratulating him on choosing Georgia. It really has been a great day for Leonard.”

Floyd is Georgia’s sixth commitment for its 2012 class. He also held offers from Alabama, Florida, Mississippi State, Purdue and South Carolina.
