Kamryn Melton headed to the Plains

Posted by Bryan Fischer

Auburn gained a commitment from an offensive player over the weekend and it didn't take long for the Tigers to match it on the defensive side, adding a pledge on Monday from Dothan (Ala.) defensive back Kamryn Melton.

"I told (secondary coach Willie) Martinez first and then circled around and talked with Gene Chizik," Melton told 247Sports. "He was very excited about it: ‘Just don’t go to anybody else.’ I was like, ‘Yes sir, I’m not going to switch.’ From there, they just welcomed me to the family. I was very excited. My mom too. She’s an Auburn fan and my whole family is Auburn fans. My whole family is excited. I’m proud to be a part of it. War Eagle."

The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder also held offers from Kentucky and UAB but his visit to the Plains was what won him over and allowed Melton to feel comfortable enough to commit early.

"When I went to lunch during Junior Day and I sat down with the Tigerettes. They invited me over and were asking me questions," he said. "I saw that the people down here are really friendly. They want you with your family. Right then, I was like, ‘Whoa, this is where I need to be.'"

Melton becomes the fifth commitment in Auburn's class of 2013 and the first defensive back of the group.

CB Zack Sanchez switches from Baylor to Oklahoma

Posted by Tom Fornelli

There had been some question as to whether or not cornerback Zack Sanchez would switch his commitment from Baylor to Oklahoma in recent weeks, and Sanchez has put the speculation to an end.

Sanchez took to his Twitter account on Monday to make the announcement official.

Sanchez had originally committed to Baylor when Oklahoma didn't show much interest in him, but that changed once Mike Stoops replaced Willie Martinez as the Sooners secondary coach. Sanchez took an official visit to Norman over the weekend, and obviously he enjoyed the trip.

The 6-foot-1 170-pound corner becomes the 21st member of Oklahoma's 2012 class, and the second player to hop on board Monday, following tight end Sam Grant.

Cornerback Kevin Peterson commits to Oklahoma

Posted by Bryan Fischer

Oklahoma's recruiting class got a little bit bigger on Sunday as Wagoner (Okla.) cornerback Kevin Peterson committed to the Sooners in the middle of one of the biggest recruiting weekends in Norman in some time.

"My decision (to commit) was a collection of everything really," Peterson told SoonerScoop.com. "Talking to coach (Willie) Martinez through the day, what he had to say - it really stood out to me."

The 6-foot, 170-pounder had been on the Sooners' radar for a while but had not received an offer. With interest picking up in Peterson following the conclusion of his senior season, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M had extended offers before the one he finally wanted came through in Oklahoma.

"They said eventually they could see me at either, they could see me playing either (corner) position," he said. "They just said we just have to get you in the program and handle the weight room."

Peterson becomes the 17th commitment for the Sooners class of 2012 and second defensive back. He led his team to a state title two weeks ago and racked up 36 tackles and three interceptions on defense.

"He proves to be an outstanding cover corner," analyst Tom Lemming said. :Shows a nose for the ball, a smooth backpedal, and can turn and run with the best of them. Shows excellent lateral agility and the explosive burst needed to play major college ball."
