Florida State gets commit from DT Eddie Goldman

Posted by Chip Patterson

Eddie Goldman, ranked as the No. 2 defensive tackle (No. 17 overall prospect) in the 2012 class, is the latest to join a star-studded class for Jimbo Fisher and Florida State.

"This fall, I will attend Florida State University," Goldman announced on Wednesday in a television appearance on ESPN. "It's going to be a great thing, I'm going to be surrounded by a lot of talent. I'm just going to try to do my best to contribute."

Goldman joins Mario Edwards (No. 4 overall prospect) as top defensive linemen from the 2012 class to commit to Florida State. The Seminoles' defense has become a force since Fisher was promoted to head coach in 2010, allowing less than 20 points per game in the last two seasons.

Howard joins a Seminoles class currently ranked No. 8 in the CBS Sports National Signing Day Top 25. Keep up with all the latest announcements around the nation throughout the day at Signing Day Central.

Top CB Tracy Howard chooses Miami

Posted by Chip Patterson

Tracy Howard, one of the top cornerbacks in the 2012 class, announced his intentions to sign with Miami.

"I chose the University of Miami because I looked at the overall picture of it from an academic standpoint to an opportunity standpoint," Howard said in a live announcement on ESPN.  "I had a great bond with the coaches. Why not win in my hometown, in my city. Why not do it there?"

Howard narrowed his choices to the Florida, Florida State, and the Hurricanes before making his decision known on National Signing Day. The 5-foot-11, 170 pound cornerback from Mirmar (Fla.) High School is considered by many to be one of the top cover corners in the class, and arguably the top recruit in the state of Florida. For the three Sunshine State powerhouses, Howard was one of the top in-state targets.

"[Howard] shows above average acceleration and change of direction," says Tom Lemming. "He closes quickly on the ball and is not overly aggressive or physical against the run, he's more of a cover corner with very good instincts."

Howard joins a Hurricanes class currently ranked No. 6 in the CBS Sports National Signing Day Top 25. Keep up with all the latest announcements around the nation throughout the day at Signing Day Central.

ATH Joel Caleb to sign with Virginia Tech

Posted by Chip Patterson

Wide receiver Joel Caleb, the No. 6 athlete (No. 46 overall prospect) in the 2012 class, has committed to Virginia Tech over West Virginia and Ohio State.

Caleb was a dual-threat quarterback and defensive back at Clover Hill (Midlothian, Va.), throwing for 747 yards and rushing for 737 in a senior season shortened by injury.  He is expected to play wide receiver for the Hokies, and is one of Virginia Tech's top ranked commits in the 2012 class.

Virginia Tech had a few top prospects left uncommitted heading into National Signing Day, and Caleb was at the top of the wish list. As of his commitment, the Hokies have the No. 17 recruiting class in the CBS Sports National Signing Day Top 25.

Virginia DT Korren Kirven picks Alabama

Posted by Chip Patterson

Alabama added more beef to their 2012 class early on National Signing Day when Korren Kirven picked the Tide over in-state favorite Virginia Tech.

Kirven had also considered Maryland and Tennessee before narrowing his choices and announcing and making his announcement on Wednesday at Brookville High in Lynchburg.

The 6-foot-3, 270 pound defensive tackle attends the same high school as current Hokies quarterback Logan Thomas and defensive end Zack McCray, but chose to commit to Nick Saban and the defending national champions.

Kirven is considered a top defensive end prospect by MaxPreps.com's Tom Lemming, and adds plenty of depth to an already healthy Crimson Tide recruiting class. The announcement is a much bigger blow to the Hokies, who had Kirven as one of their last big prospects yet to commit.
