Tuesday night was Brady Hoke’s night on the recruiting trail as one of the top uncommitted players in the state of Ohio said he was headed to Michigan and a current recruit reaffirmed his commitment to the maize and blue.
Cincinnati (OH) outside linebacker Antonio Poole selected Michigan over Pittsburgh, Miami and Kentucky, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Defense is an area of need for the Wolverines, who ranked 110th in the country in total defense last season. Poole’s commitment is also the first major recruiting victory for new defensive coordinator Greg Mattison, who was the Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator the past two seasons.
Shortly after Poole’s commitment, Owings Mills (MD) cornerback Blake Countess tweeted that he would stay with his decision to go to Michigan. Countess is MaxPreps' sixth-ranked corner and one of the top players in the state of Maryland. He held offers from schools such as Arkansas, Penn State, Pittsburgh, and Stanford.
The two commitments provide not only two good players for Hoke, but some momentum heading into Signing Day.
