Trey Williams officially signs with Texas A&M

Posted by Tom Fornelli

Kevin Sumlin has seen some members of his first recruiting class leave for other schools on Wednesday, and he's helped flip some of his own, but the best news he received all day may have been when Trey Williams faxed in his letter of intent to play for the Aggies.

Williams' commitment to the Aggies hasn't really been in doubt since he verbally committed back in April, but given the nature of college football recruiting, and all the flips we've seen already today, Sumlin can move forward knowing he has his running back of the future.

Williams is ranked as the top wingback in the 2012 class by MaxPreps, and the five-star back is ranked #32 over all. He's the highest-rated running back the Aggies have signed since Christine Michael, who Williams could find himself splitting carries with in 2012.

Williams is 5-foot-10 and 176 pounds, but he also runs a 4.37 40-yard dash. Williams' signing combined with that of wide receiver Thomas Johnson give the Aggies a couple new offensive playmakers as they make the move to the SEC.

Tom Lemming called him "the most exciting player in south Texas." Though you don't have to take Lemming's word for it, you can just check out some of the highlight videos.

USC verbal commit Vatuvei signs with Washington

Posted by Chip Patterson

Defensive end Pio Vatuvei (Patterson, Calif.) verbally committed to USC before the start of his senior season. But on National Signing Day, the four-star lineman signed with Pac-12 rival Washington.

The 6-foot-2, 265 pound Vatuvei played weakside defensive end and fullback for Patterson, and chose the Huskies after receiving offers from Arizona, Colorado, Oregon State, Utah, Washington State, and USC, among others.

Washington's 2012 recruiting class broke into the CBS Sports National Signing Day Top 25 on Wednesday after several late flips. It is likely no coincidence to see this late surge just weeks after Washington hired highly-touted recruiting coordinator Tosh Lupoi from California.

Torshiro Davis chooses Texas

Posted by Tom Fornelli

There have been quite a few surprises on National Signing Day, and the latest involves outside linebacker Torshiro Davis.

Davis, from Shreveport, Louisiana, had originally committed to play football at LSU nearly a year ago to the day. Then, surprisingly, when he signed his letter of intent on Wednesday it was Texas he was committing to. Davis had visited Texas along with Alabama in spite of his commitment to Texas, but maintained throughout the process that he was strongly leaning toward LSU the entire time.

It seems that changed in the last few days.

When asked what had changed for Davis, he said "some of the players don't seem happy down there [at LSU]."

Davis stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 222 pounds. He also runs a 4.56 40-yard dash, and will be a welcome addition to the Longhorns pass rush in the years to come.

Notre Dame loses Greenberry to Houston

Posted by Tom Fornelli

Notre Dame fans became a bit worried when five-star wide receiver Deontay Greenberry visited Houston earlier this week after giving a verbal commitment to the Irish, and it appears those worries weren't without reason.

CBSSports.com's Bryan Fischer confirmed on Wednesday that Greenberry had signed his letter of intent to play at Houston.

This comes as a big surprise as Greenberry had maintained all along that he wanted to go to school with his cousin, cornerback Tee Shepard. Shepard is a Notre Dame signing who signed his letter of intent to the school on Wednesday.

Greenberry is the ranked third amongst all wide receivers by MaxPreps, behind only Dorial Green-Beckham and Cayleb Jones. While losing Greenberry to Houston doesn't kill what's a pretty strong 2012 class for Notre Dame, it's also not the kind of news Brian Kelly and his staff were expecting to hear today.

Trae Elston chooses Ole Miss

Posted by Tom Fornelli

Trae Elston, a cornerback from Oxford, Alabama, is going from one Oxford to another.

Elston announced on Wednesday morning in a televised press conference that he'd be going to Ole Miss, giving new head coach Hugh Freeze an excellent addition on the defensive side of the ball. Elston made the announcement by pulling off his jacket to reveal a white shirt and red tie before putting on his Ole Miss hat.

The three-star prospect is ranked at #122 in the 2012 recruiting class by MaxPreps.

Elston stands at 6-feet tall and weighs 180 pounds. He was a high school teammate of Kwon Alexander, who announced he'd be attending LSU a few minutes before Elston made his announcement.

Stanford picks up WR Michael Rector

Posted by Tom Fornelli

Washington has done an impressive job of luring recruits away from previous commitments ever since hiring Tosh Lupoi, but on Wednesday morning the Huskies felt the sting of having one of their own commitments flip.

Wide receiver Michael Rector had previously committed to the Huskies, but on Wednesday the Bellarmine Prep (Wa.) product signed a letter of intent to play at Stanford.

Rector is 6-foot-2 and 189 pounds. He played both wide receiver and defensive back in high school, and was one of the more prolific receivers in the state of Washington. Tom Lemming called Rector "super fast" which should benefit the Stanford offense, as he may provide a reliable deep threat that the Cardinal seemed to be lacking at receiver in 2011.
