4/15 Recruiting Roundup.

It's the beginning of the May Evaluation period today and coaches across the country are getting ready to head out on the road and see recruits. Lane Kiffin's USC staff seemed to kick things off, calling several prospects at 3 AM PT/6 AM ET this morning.

- A few top Detroit area recruits, including tight end Devin Funchess.

- Four members of the Lemming Top 100 will attend the Notre Dame Spring Game tomorrow.

- Texas has put together one of the top classes of 2012, according to the Sporting News.

- A Texas A&M recruit got a very personalized recruiting letter.

- Georgia offered tight end Tyriq McCord.

Penn State adds five-star defensive tackle

Penn State is on a recruiting roll. 

Just a few days after landing defensive tackle Jamil Pollard, the Nittany Lions added another top player at the position with a soft verbal commitment from Rochester (N.Y.) defensive tackle Jarron Jones.

“I committed to Penn State just like that, but I will take officials to five other schools,” Jones told Scout.com. “My top five is in order are as follows: Penn State, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and North Carolina.”

A five-star tackle, Jones is the 13th ranked player in Tom Lemming's Top 100 for 2012. Despite the commitment to Penn State, it appears Jones is still very much open to other schools and will continue to be recruited.

“I have high interest in my top five and also Notre Dame, Boston College and Connecticut," he told the website. "I have low interest in South Florida, Miami and Buffalo."

The 6-foot-7, 310 pound Jones had 68 tackles, 14 of which went for a loss, 10 sacks and an interception as a junior. He is the sixth commitment for the Nittany Lions' class of 2012 and the fourth player in the class that can play on the defensive line.

Good day weekend at TCU for the Elite 11 and Nike Camp. Several Lemming Top 100 players were in attendance and many other players made a name for themselves.

- Offensive lineman Trey Keenan said his visit to Arkansas was very good and a few other tidbits here.

- Johnny Strahl was named quarterback MVP of the Orlando 1on1 Showcase camp.

- A few notes about Michigan recruiting, including an update on top defensive end Noah Spence.

- Despite being early in the process, many of the top inside linebackers are already committed to a school.
