Vancouver's Malhotra surgery 'successful'

Vancouver Canucks forward Manny Malhotra underwent "successful" surgery to repair the vision in his injured left eye, the team announced in a statement on Tuesday.

"Manny Malhotra’s health continues to be the primary concern of the hockey club," the team said in a statement.

The Vancouver Suns reports procedure was performed by Stanley Chang, the same New York surgeon who worked on NHL defenseman Bryan Berard after he took a stick to the eye in 2000.  Malhotra was injured when he took a puck to the face in a game against the Colorado Avalanche on March 16.

The Canucks said there were no further updates at this time.

News of the surgery was first repoted by Phoenix Suns guard Steve Nash, whose sister, Joann, is married to Malhotra.

“I need my brother in law, Manny Malhotra of the Vancouver Canucks, to have a successful eye surgery tomorrow saving his eye and vision,” Nash wrote on Twitter Monday.

The Canucks announced March 21 that Malhotra would be out the remainder of the season after he took a puck in the eye during a game days earlier.
