08-09 Texas Tech Red Raiders

Before I start, I just want to let you know that I'm not being biased just because I like Texas Tech about my opinions in this blog entry. . .

So, how 'bout those TTU Red Raiders?

With one of the most prolific offenses in the NCAA and a top WR & underrated QB, I think Texas Tech is releasing one of the best group of players in school history. Featuring Top 5 predicted WR Michael Crabtree and QB Graham Harrel who was at one point the leading contender for the Heisman Trophy and Big 12  sack leader DE Brandon Williams, Texas Tech was one of the top teams this year, ranked as highas No. 2 in the country and losing only 1 regular season game. They were not given a spot in the BCS because of being placed behind Oklahoma and Texas in the overall rankings, and lost the Cotton Bowl to Ole Miss which I think was due to the large amount of injuries in the first half. Crabtree was hampered by an ankle injury and was held to a career low 30 yards and FS Darcel McBath and CB Jamar Wall both suffered injuries, two key players on the defense.

The NFL Draft is looking good for many prospects from Texas Tech. Crabtree is projected at No. 3 in the draft, while Harrel is projected to be picked in the 2nd or 3rd round. I think Williams may also be a late 1st round early 2nd round pick with his speed and atheleticism.

What are you opinions on Texas Tech this season? Post a comment!

Go Red Raiders!

Super Bowl XLII Week- New England vs New York

Monday, January 28th 2008

Super Bowl time!!!

I guess Tom Brady is ok after coming out and holding a rally for all the Patriots fans. This is going to be a good game in which I think the Patriots will win. Brady should pass for at least 270 yards and 2 TDs and Moss will have a breakout game when it counts. For the Giants, I think Eli Manning will struggle against the Patriots great front 7. The Patriots should blitz throughout the game to disturb Manning. As for the running games, Laurence Maroney should play fairly good around 50-75 yards and maybe a TD. The Giants duo of Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw will have to carry the load for the Giants, and will keep the game close.

What the Giants need to do to win:
  • Stop the Patriots stellar passing game
  • Run the ball consistently
  • Make sure Eli Manning doesn't start out struggling

What the Patriots need to do to win:
  • Get the receivers going with some short slant routes
  • Try to work the ball to the playmakers- Brady, Moss, Welker
  • Stuff the Giants run game
  • Pressure Eli throughout the game.

My Pick: Patriots 35-24. Eli will have 2 or more INTs...

NFC Championship- Giants 23, Packers 20 (OT)

Game Summary

Welcome to the Super Bowl Mr. Manning.

Not Peyton, but Eli.

What a game! I am amazed at how terribly the Packers played late in the game with a veteran QB like Brett Favre! Lawrence Tynes had a up-and-down game as well, but came through with a 47 yard FG in OT, a record for longest in Lambeau Field in the playoffs. We can still say "LT in OT!" but this time its the Giants that came through. Brett Favre played O.K until that play in overtime. Remember that Tynes had missed a 36 yard FG at the end of regulation due to a bad snap, and somehow stayed calm and sent the Giants to the Super Bowl. What a wild playoff it has been!

AFC Championship- Patriots 21, Chargers 12

Game Summary

Holy cow.

I know the Patriots won and all but their performance was disappointing. I was expecting Randy Moss to have a breakout game and he was held to 1 catch for 18 yards for the second time. Also, Tom Brady did not have a great game even though he had 2 TDs, he had 3 INTs. However, the defense held the Chargers to 4 FGs on good drives that could have resulted in TDs. Quite a game...

Check back Super Bowl week for my predictions!

NFL Playoffs- Giants @ Packers

Giants @ Packers

Wow, Brett Favre has still got it in him huh?

The Packers have an obvious edge in this game coming off of a great all-around performance versus the Seattle Seahawks. The Giants,on the other hand, never get road weary. They have a better road record then home record this season. They are coming off an upset that I see as not so major over the Cowboys, not an amazing team...

My Stand: The Giants have a decent chance, but only if they can
  • Make sure Eli Manning doesn't start bad, they always lose when he does nothing
  • Use a mixture of Jacobs and Bradshaw throughout the game to try and get a run game going
  • PLAY DEFENSE and don't let Grant do anything

My Pick: Packers 24-13

NFL Playoffs- Chargers @ Patriots

Chargers @ Patriots

How about dem Patriots?

After a 31-20 routing on Saturday, they look ahead to a game against the San Diego Chargers who may be without starting QB Phillip Rivers. Rivers is listed as questionable for the game which will be in Foxborough at the Patriots home field.

My Stand: I think the Patriots will win this by a blowout if the Chargers can't
  • Get LT going on the ground
  • Get Volek (or Rivers) off to a good start

Prediction: Patriots 42-24
