YOUR BEST SONG FOR THE ROCK BAND GAME

Hey folks.

Those of you who have played Rock Band know how utterly cool it is.  And how it's the ultimate multi-player game.  Playing with your siblings or friends and simultaneously sweating out the tunes is the pinnacle of coolness.

What format do you play this on (PS3, XBOX 360, etc) and who do you play with?  What instrument do you play, or are you the singer?  And best of all, what's your signature song(s)?  What's your character(s) look like?

My brother's friend has one for his XBOX360 and the three of us jam at his place.  He's on lead, bro's on bass and I sing.  We've had his brother play on drums once.  I'm a bit new at it so I'm not comfortable with many songs yet.  But the one where we can all excel and easily get at least high 90% rating is Blitzkrieg Bop by the Ramones.  Fun!

What Rock Band memories do you have?

NES GAMES YOU LIKED

Okay, moving on up the video game console ladder to the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), or in Japan, the Famicom.  This system is where many great video game franchises got their start.  Zelda, Mega Man, Metroid, Castlevania, Metal Gear, and others started right here.

Your favorites may have been among these, or there may have been many that didn't spawn a huge series of their own, but were a lot of fun to play anyhow.  I will start with mine, and you can then share your 8-bit memories with me.

The Super Mario games:  I lump these into one group because I liked them all.  Although 2 is probably my favorite of them.

Castlevania 1 and 3.  2 was okay, and had the best music.  But the execution was somewhat flawed.  The leveling-up system didn't quite work too well.

Gradius.  Great, great shooter!  But the Moai statues can really gang up on you when you get between them.

Zelda 1 and 2.  I can't say which I like better because they're both great.

Kid Icarus.  Fun game, but it takes a little getting used to control-wise; it's easy to land on a small patch of turf, then walk right off the edge to your death.

Metroid.  I loved the game and the twist ending.. Samus is a chick?!  I'll be damned!

Bases Loaded.  As many baseball games have come out for better systems over the years, I still come back to this one.  Great music!

Contra and Super C.  I beat Contra once without the 30 lives trick, but it sure wasn't easy.. the spread gun is too cool for words.

Other great ones: Lifeforce, Kid Niki (well, not GREAT but finding the secret levels was fun), Bionic Commando, Blaster Master, Bubble Bobble (one of the best conversions of any game ever), Double Dragon 1 and 2, Dragon Warrior, Guardian Legend, Goonies II, Kings of The Beach, Wizards & Warriors, Gyruss, Mega Man 1-3, Mendel Palace, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, Ninja Gaiden 1-3, Pro Wrestling, RC Pro-Am, Rad Racer, Sky Kid, Tecmo Bowl, River City Ransom, Tiger Heli, Track & Field II, Wrecking Crew.

Sorry if I rattled off one you wanted to name, but if you care to share your memories of that game in full detail, please do so; I like hearing about your reactions from playing these great NES games.

VIDEO GAME BOSSES THAT OWNED YOU TIME AND AGAIN

Wow.. this might be the first time I got the gist of the blog down without having to really explain it!

My submission has to be Geese Howard from the first "Fatal Fury" arcade game.  If you jumped at him, he'd catch you in midair and toss you like a frisbee.  If you got close, he'd punch/kick you.  If you used a long-distance attack, he'd counter with his own, which was much faster and far more damaging.  He actually seemed to be easier to play against in the sequels.

TEAMS THAT SHOULD'VE WON THE TITLE GAME, BUT...

I really wish I had more space for the header, so I don't have to explain myself at great length here.  But many, many times throughout the course of history, a team either has all the tools to win a championship game/series and looks like they should roll over the other team, or have a big lead that they surely wouldn't squander.  But for some odd reason, they suck it big time, and the other team is celebrating and hosting the trophy up high, while fans of the heavily favored team are either shocked into a stupor or are hurling profanities at the television.

What team do you feel had everything they needed to win the title game/series (especially in a game 7; it doesn't get more devastating than that) and then somewhere along the line laid an egg and the other team seemed to want it more?  Direct all your pent-up misery to this blog.

ATARI 2600 GAMES YOU LIKED

Hey gang.

I have VERY fond memories of my ATARI 2600.  This little beauty stuck with me from the late '70s to the late '80s, even while I was playing Nintendo.  Some games still had me hooked at that time, even with all the far superior graphics Nintendo had to offer me; I could never forget my roots.  Thank you, ATARI.  And now, a few good ones I played over and over again.

PITFALL!

PITFALL II (My personal favorite)

ADVENTURE

VIDEO PINBALL

MISSILE COMMAND

SPACE INVADERS

KEYSTONE KAPERS

ICE HOCKEY

DRAGONFIRE

STAR VOYAGER

DEMON ATTACK

These are just a few I remember well.  What were the games you loved?

BREAKFAST CEREALS YOU WERE (ARE?) HOOKED ON

Cereal lovers unite, and hold your spoons up high!  This blog's for you.  What cereals were you hooked on as a kid, or are hooked on as an adult?  If you'd like to include extras (banana slices, blueberries, sliced strawberries, etc.) that you throw on your favorites go ahead.

My personal faves of today:

Cocoa or Fruity Pebbles

Crispix

Wheaties

Frosted Mini-Wheats

One I used to like a lot in my pre-to-early teens was called "Halfsies".  Like Cap'n Crunch but tasted better, I thought.

MOST SNICKER-WORTHY PRO SPORTS PLAYERS' NAMES

Hey gang,

Thought this might be kinda fun; certainly, there's been times where a player's name was shown on tv or announced, and the spelling or the pronunciation made you laugh because it sounded weird or it sounded like something not normally held in very high regard.  My example:

Albert Pujols

Which is pronounced, "poo holes".  Yuck... hope this guy never drops the soap in prison...

What funny names can you think of?

STUPID THINGS FAMOUS CELEBRITIES HAVE DONE

Hey gang,

Since I don't have a lot of space to clarify my blog topic above, I hope you're reading this part.

Celebrities have to live their "real-world" lives just like all of us, and have little scrapes here and there like a speeding ticket or a DUI, or lost their cool and punched someone in public (in their case, probably an annoying photographer).  But sometimes they pull off some real doozies that not a whole lot of people would do.  What are some that you remember?
