2008-2009 NBA Season Predictions

Well folks the NBA Season is upon us and it is certain to be an exciting year. So here are my predictions for how the season will pan out and what to expect.

Eastern Conference

(1) Boston Celtics 61-21
(5) Toronto Raptors 45-37
(6) Philadelphia 76ers 43-39
New Jersey Nets 32-50
New York Knicks 20-62

Atlantic analysis: Boston should see a slight drop off with the loss of James Posey and also just the fact that the defending champs often don't have quite the same motivation they had the previous year. Toronto should be improved with the addition of Jermaine O'Neal if he can stay on the court that gives them a solid group of Jose Calderon, Chris Bosh, and Jermaine O'Neal. Philadelphia should also improve with the addition of Elton Brand. While I like the Nets move to get Yi Jianlian don't expect to see an improvement in the standings at all. The Knicks well let's just say I'm not buying the D'Antoni move. I have always felt D'Antoni was overrated and I don't really think he is a great fit in New York.

(2) Detroit Pistons 57-25
(4) Cleveland Cavaliers 47-35
(7) Milwaukee Bucks 38-44
Indiana Pacers 34-48
Chicago Bulls 33-49

Central analysis: The Pistons still rule the central as they should still be very solid with one of the best starting 5's in the league and the improvement of some bench players like Stuckey. The Cavs should be pretty solid as well I like the addition of Mo Williams I think this will give LeBron a possible partner. Milwaukee Bucks I love their off season moves I think the Bucks have created a solid team that has a lot of potential. I think Richard Jefferson will be huge to that offense and Scott Skiles should be able to get his defensive philosophy instilled on these guys eventually. Indiana and Chicago will be not too far out of the playoff picture.

(3)Orlando Magic 54-28
(8)Miami Heat 37-45
Washington Wizards 35-47
Atlanta Hawks 31-51
Charlotte Bobcats 25-57

Southeast analysis: The Magic should be able to easily win this division I like the addition of Mickael Pietrus in the back court. I also like Stan Van Gundy I think he is one of the more underrated coaches in the league. Miami Heat added in Micheal Beasley and Dwayne Wade appears to be back healthy. These few things should help Miami improve greatly not so sure if it is worth 22 games, but I will by into the hype they are getting and say it will. The Wizards I see dropping of Agent Zero can't stay healthy. Atlanta Hawks will likely drop off after a really good season for them last year. I'm a huge Mike Bibby fan, but not sure if he alone can will this team to do any better then last season. Not a believer in Larry Brown and I think Charlotte will actually regress as Larry alienates his young team probably at some point.

Western Conference

(4) Utah Jazz 53-29
(7) Portland Trailblazers 47-35
Denver Nuggets 41-41
Oklahoma City Thunder 23-59
Minnesota Timberwolves 20-62

Northwest analysis: The Jazz should be about the same team as last season however if Boozer can stay healthy that will help. With some improvement from Ronnie Brewer and getting more out of Andrei Kirilenko this team should be a major force in the West. Portland stands to be one of the more improved teams with the addition of Greg Oden look for him to average a double double and help propel Portland to the playoffs. Denver Nuggets are due to drop off this is a team that played all offense and no defense with the loss of Marcus Camby don't expect much more then .500 at best. It will be a long first season in Oklahoma City however maybe they can at least finish fourth instead of fifth. Minnesota is going to struggle again this season.

(1) LA Lakers 63-19
(5) Phoenix Suns 52-30
LA Clippers 40-42
Golden State Warriors 38-44
Sacramento Kings 30-52

Pacific analysis: Lakers should be improved with the addition of Bynum. Bynum is the missing interior piece that the Lakers missed dearly in the finals last season. He could very well have an all star appearance in his future. Look out for Jordan Farmar sooner or later this kid is going to take off and show that he ready to be the starting point guard. Lakers should win the division and get home field throughout the post season. The Suns I think will be improved just not in the win column. Terry Porter was a very good hire and he will get this team to play some kind of defense. The Clippers are getting a lot of hype and they should be if they still had Brand they would easily probably make the playoffs. I just don't know if the big additions minus some big subtractions will improve this team greatly enough to get them in the post season. They will improve though with Baron Davis enough for the playoffs though I think not. The Warriors and the Kings are both looking at drop off seasons.

(2)New Orleans Hornets 58-24
(3) Houston Rockets 57-25
(6) San Antonio Spurs 51-31
(8) Dallas Mavericks 47-35
Memphis Grizzles 18-64

Southwest analysis: This is an absolute beast of a division that could see three teams potentially finish first. I think the Hornets are the best team here with the addition of Posey should help this team at the very least match what they did last season. Look for Chris Paul to put up another MVP type season. Houston Rockets stand to be a great team if they can stay healthy. With the addition of Ron Artest your looking at a solid big 3 in Houston. The only question is will Artest negative things he brings to a team not affect them. I think the Spurs stand to drop off a little. Manu Ginobili is hurting and will miss some key time early. Look for the Spurs to be peaking come playoff time though. The Mavericks should be able to do just enough to make the post season as I see the bottom half of the Western Conference dropping off slightly. The Grizzles are a bad team in a brutal division they might improve just not in standings.

Season Awards

MVP- Chris Paul- I see Chris Paul getting his first MVP last season many felt he should of won however it rightfully went to Bryant. I think Kobe Bryant will have to do something better then last season to get it not sure if I see it. I see Kobe Bryant having another deserving season however the media will favor Paul.

Comeback Player- Andrew Bynum- Look for Andrew to make the all star team and have a great season. Helping lead the Lakers to another division title.

Sixth Man- Lamar Odom- If Odom subjects himself to the bench I can see great things from him. Lamar could easily win sixth man of the year this season as he will be the best player coming of the best teams bench.

NBA Champions

The Lakers will win it all with a 4-1 series win over Dallas, a 4-2 epic win over the Suns a series built as Shaq's last chance should be a classic, a 4-3 classic Western Conference finals that sees the home team hold serve in the first two games each. Then sees the Hornets shock the Lakers in game 5 only to have the Lakers return the favor in game 6 in New Orleans and then finish them off in a classic game 7 in Staples. Then the Lakers will take care of Boston in the finals grabbing a 3-1 lead much like Boston did last season and finishing of the Celtics in 6. Getting the payback they are looking for and Kobe Bryant gets the finals MVP. I know I'm being a homer, but if the Lakers stay healthy it is title or bust this season!!!!!

Review Of 2008 MLB Predictions

Well I thought I would have a little fun by seeing just how bad I did in predicting the 2008 MLB season or how good I did maybe? Before the playoffs are actually locked though when I will give my playoff predictions very soon so stay tuned. For now though click the liknk below to read my blog entry were I made my pre season MLB predictions.

So to start the analysis I will go division by division.

AL East Pre Season Picks

1. Red Soxs
2. Yankees(WC)
3. Blue Jays
4. Rays
5. Orioles

AL East Actual Finish

1. Rays
2. Red Soxs(WC)
3. Yankees
4. Blue Jays
5. Orioles

Final Analysis: Well please raise your hand if you picked the Rays to win 97 games and win this division. Yea just what I thought a few liars raising their hand and maybe a few die hard Rays fans being homers. The Rays were an incredible story this season and if the Cubs can't win the series I think I'm pulling for these guys. Outside of the Rays bumping up my list I did get the rest of the order sort of right. I did call this division for the wild card which proved true. The Yankees for the fact they didn't make the post season still won 89 games despite all their key injuries.

AL Central Pre Season Picks

1. Indians
2. Tigers
3. White Sox's
4. Twins
5. Royals

AL Central Actual Finish

1. Twins
1. White Sox's
3. Indians
4. Royals
4. Tigers

Final Analysis: Who would of thought the Twins get better after losing Johan and Torre Hunter. Give me credit for saying the Twins make a habit out of surprising on a yearly basis. I'm hoping they can hang on and beat out the Sox's for the division it would make me very happy. The Twins are probably my favorite AL ball club because of how they always are in contention even when you least expect it. Hey at least I wasn't buying into the Tiger hype and that proved true. However I will admit I did not think they would be this bad. I also said Cleveland would do better then them and they did. Just a strange year all around in the AL Central, but I will say I got the Indians beating out the Tigers right!!!!!!!

AL West Pre Season Picks

1. Mariners
2. Angels
3. Rangers
4. Athletics

AL West Actual Finish

1. Angels
2. Rangers
3. Athletics
4. Mariners

Final Analysis- I butchered this division the Angels were the team I thought the Mariners could be this season. Not much else to say the Angels dominated this division and I think are the team to beat in the post season.

Final AL Analysis- Overall I did not do very good on this predicting thing I got only 1 of the AL playoff teams right. I had that team advancing to the ALCS so that could still happen.

NL East Pre Season Picks

1. Mets
2. Phillies
3. Braves
4. Nationals
5. Marlins

NL East Actual Finish

1. Phillies
2. Mets
3. Marlins
4. Braves
5. Nationals

Final Analysis: Well I bought into the Johan hype that was the only reason I picked the Mets otherwise I would of picked the Phillies for sure. To be fair to me Johan Santana I think more then lived up to the hype for the Mets it was other things like the Mets bull pen that cost them from living up to my prediction. Didn't see the Marlins year as they where in the hunt for quite awhile for the wild card. Nationals and Braves not much to say about either team. Overall I think I did a pretty decent job of picking this division.

NL Central Pre Season Picks

1. Cubs
2. Brewers
3. Reds
4. Cards
5. Astros
6. Pirates

NL Central Actual Finish

1. Cubs
2. Brewers(WC)
3. Astros
4. Cards
5. Reds
6. Pirates

Final Analysis: I think I'm pretty much a prophet on this division. Of course I got our Cubbies right so I'm very happy for that and I said they would win the division by more then last year which they did. I got the Brewers right in the second and I nearly had them pegged for the wild card, but I went with the Dodgers instead. Switch the Astros and Reds around and I would of got this whole division right. Cause I got the Cards right in 4th and the lowly Pirates in the cellar right as usual. So I give myself an A for this division!!!!!

NL West Pre Season Picks

1. Arizona
2. Dodgers(WC)
3. Rockies
4. Padres
5. Giants

NL West Actual Finish

1. Dodgers
2. Arizona
3. Rockies
4. Giants
5. Padres

Final Analysis: Well I didn't do so well, but I did get the Dodgers right on making the playoffs they just happened to be the division winner instead of a wild card. I was totally wrong about this division being the toughest. It was the weakest by far in the NL and was not much fun to watch. Torre did do wonders for the Dodgers. Arizona was a big letdown this year for many as they did not live up to the hype at all regressing from last season. I got the Rockies right in third that's the only spot I had right at all.

Final NL Analysis: Well I called the Cubs and Dodgers facing of in the playoffs however I had that happening in the NLCS so I won't take as much credit. I had the Cubs going to the world series and winning that and that dream is still alive.

Will see I sure hope my predictions of the Cubs winning it all comes to be very true. That feeling I had of something magical happening this season has been felt so many times throughout this season with our Cubs. I just hope they can seal the deal bring on the playoffs.

Stay tuned folks playoff predictions coming really soon, but for now Go Tigers tomorrow and Go Twins if needed!!!!!!!!!

2008-2009 NFL Season Predictions

Well here we go folks the NFL season has begun and I have a few thoughts on how this season will go down as I assume all of you will. So here come my predictions feel free to give me thoughts and feelings on how my predictions look to you. Also feel free to post yours in the comments so I can see what your thinking. So here we go I will start with the division break downs.

AFC East

New England Patriots 14-2- The Patriots are still going to be solid this year for sure. They aren't going to run the table like last season, but they should be able to win a lot of games still and easily still win this division even with the arrival of Favre. There biggest weakness will be in there line backer and defensive back corps if that can work itself out they may just complete what they didn't do last year and that is win the Super Bowl.

New York Jets 10-6*- Laugh if you want, but I really love the Jets chances. Brett Favre is going to prove all the doubters once again wrong by having another big time year. I see at least 3500 passing yards, and 20+ TD's. There schedule is very winnable which will also help them in the race for the playoffs. Brett Favre will energize this team to nab the final wild card spot.

Buffalo Bills 7-9- I'm not buying the Bills even though I think they will be a tough team this year for anyone to face. I just don't know Dick Jauron is not a great coach either. I think there defense will have problems and they just play in a brutal AFC.

Miami Dolphis 3-13- Will things be better in Miami I think so. All they have to do is win a few games and they are technically better. However Bill Parcels is not a miracle worker and this team is still several years away from being a contender. They will take some steps up and fight hard though with many teams. 3 wins though would be my over and under.

AFC West

San Diego 13-3- Despite all their injuries and terrible start last season they overcame it to reach the AFC Title game and give the Patriots a game. If they stay healthy this team has all the goods to make a run at the Super Bowl. I like San Diego especially in this division they will be the class of it by far. A big key to watch is they get to face New England and the Colts both at home that could prove pivotal in the race for seedings.

Denver 7-9- It's time for the Rat Mike Shanahan to be gone what has he done with this team since Elway left? Bob Slowik as the new defense coordinator can he fix the defense I doubt it. I think the one shinning thing for Denver is Jay Cutler should be improved and I think he will have a nice season. However there defense will keep them from pushing for a playoff spot in the loaded AFC.

Kansas City 5-11- This team is still in a rebuild it will be a slow one at least it won't be as bad as the one the Dolphins are in. I question if Herm Edwards is the guy for the job though.

Oakland Raiders 2-14- Not sure how I came to this record for the Raiders. Will see I think they will be an improved team even though there record might not show it. D Mac should have a big rookie year and help take some pressure of JaMarcus Russell.

AFC South

Indianapolis Colts 13-3- Barring the injury to Peyton Manning is worse then expected or he misses time. This team will definitely be better this season. They had injuries to a plenty which hurt them last season. I think they will beat New England and San Diego this season which will help them get a bye from the first round.

Jacksonville Jaguars 12-4*- Don't sleep on this team it is in the upper echelon of the AFC. They are even better then some teams that are going to win their division. They will give the Colts a battle all year for that division. They meet in week 16 and I suspect that game may decide the division. Garrad is a solid QB he is a better QB then his numbers show often. I think Gregg Williams is an excellent hire at the D Coordinator.

Tennessee Titans 9-7- The Titans are a good team stuck in a brutal division. I look for LenDale White to have a break out season and be a big compliment to Vince Young who also needs to improve. The Titans will fight hard in this division, but there ultimately the third best team at best in the south.

Houston Texans 7-9- The Texans had a fine season last year and I think you can expect another nice year out of this team this season. I think Matt Schuab will improve this year and the Texans will fight hard. They may be a better team then that 8-8 team of last year, but I think they will find it harder to get to that record this year in this loaded division.

AFC North

Pittsburgh Steelers 11-5- The Steelers are a solid team that has a good offense to go with a good defense. Not sure if there quite in the elite class of the AFC will see I hope so. Will see what Mendenhall can bring he needs to hang on to the football I don't think Tomlin will put up with fumbling. Big Ben will lead the Steelers to another AFC North title.

Cleveland Browns 9-7- They have not been impressive in the pre season, but that doesn't mean much. Will see about the Browns part of me thinks 2007 was a fluke. I do not think they are better then the Steelers and it really will come down to Derek Anderson. If Anderson doesn't perform well we may actually get a look at Brady Quinn. They will find it hard making the playoffs in the loaded AFC.

Baltimore Ravens 5-11- I can't really buy into the Ravens. This is a team that has QB issues and it's not like they have a great offense around that QB. They still have a very good defense which will keep them competitive at least.

Cincinnati Bengals 5-11- This team is all offense and no defense. It's amazing that Marvin Lewis hasn't gotten a solid defense there yet. I said that same thing about Tony Dungy for years in Indy until it actually happened. Can it happen in Cincinnati perhaps that's what there banking on.

AFC Playoffs

Wild Card

New York Jets @ San Diego Chargers- Well it was a nice year for Favre and the Jets, but it ends here as San Diego should be able to take care of the Jets at home in the playoffs by a final of 27-13.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Pittsburgh Steelers- The Steelers will be looking for revenge and I hope they can get it however not sure I'm sold on them being better then the Jaguars though. I think the Jags claw the Steelers(my favorite AFC team) again in the playoffs 17-13.

Divisional Round

Jacksonville Jaguars @ New England Patriots- Rematch of last year I think it will be another competitive game however I think the Patriots are still the better team as they prevail 30-24.

San Diego Chargers @ Indianapolis Colts- Another rematch the Colts get some revenge in the regular season by beating San Diego in San Diego. However San Diego beats the Colts again in the post season 31-17.

Championship Game

San Diego Chargers @ New England Patriots- I think a healthy Chargers team takes down the Patriots this time around in a classic battle I look for LT to be the difference as the Chargers win 23-20.

NFC East

Dallas Cowboys 12-4- I slightly question how I came to a 12-4 record for them I really think. They play in the toughest division in the NFC. That being said Dallas is stacked they have a great offense lead by Tony Romo. Felix Jones will be a nice addition to there team and should more then replace Julius Jones. They took steps to improve their defense in the off season. My biggest question with Dallas is Wade Phillips I don't think the guy is that good of a coach. I think with Jason Garret looking over his shoulder too only makes things worse for Dallas. Will see how Pac Man fits in too I hope he will be a cancer. Just don't give me the America's Team crap because no team that claims to be that would allow a guy like that on their team no matter how good he is.

New York Giants 11-5*- The Giants are going to be a solid team once again this year. I think their run last year will provide a great boost to them this season. Eli Manning has taken the next step and has become a great QB in this league. There defense should still be good enough even without Osi and Strahan. They will push the Cowboys hard for the division and should be able to split with them in the regular season.

Philadelphia Eagles 8-8- I like the Eagles chances this year of being a surprise team. Not quite sure if they will get it done as I project they will probably finish around .500 this season. They key will be McNabb staying healthy if he can the Eagles will be a team the Cowboys, Giants, or Redskins do not want to face. They wreck havoc at least with playoff teams even if they don't go to the playoffs themselves. The addition of Asante Samuel should help their defense.

Washington Redskins 8-8- Washington is an interesting team I could see them surprising as well that's why I think this division is so brutal. Will see can Jason Campbell take the next step and become a great QB that will really be the key to Washington's playoff hopes.

NFC South

New Orleans Saints 11-5- I'm a big fan of the Saints chances this year last year was a fluke I think. I think Reggie Bush will be back to his old ways of making big plays. The addition of Jeremy Shockey will be a big addition and give the Saints a great tight end for once. The Saints have made some moves to improve that defense which is really the only thing that holds this team back.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 9-7- The Bucs will probably be about the same team they where last year however if that is the case it won't be good enough to win there division this year. Tampa will have to rely on that defense in order to find there way back to the playoffs.

Carolina Panthers 7-9- While I like the Panthers I can't see this team improving too much. Jake Delhome is one of my favorite QB's in the league however you have to wonder if his days are done he isn't exactly some young kid. They are hoping Johnathan Stewart will be a great young addition to their team will see. Will see they certainly have a very tough finish to the season having to go to the Giants and the Saints the last two weeks of the season.

Atlanta Falcons 3-13- This team will be interesting I love the addition of Micheal Turner. The problem for them is Matt Ryan the rookie will be leading the team that can't be a great thing. The only good thing is he could turn into a great QB a few years down the line. It will be another tough year for Atlanta, but they will be interesting to watch. They are taking the right steps to be back among the NFC Elite again in a few years.

NFC North

Green Bay Packers 10-6- I think the Packers are going to surprise a lot of people. They will definitely not be quite as good as they were with Favre, but they may not have to be in the NFC. Aaron Rodgers if he stays healthy will have a solid year at the QB position probably throwing for over 3000 yards and 23-26 TD's. The Packers have the best receiving corps they have maybe ever had and one of the best in the league as a whole unit. Ryan Grant will be key early as we will need to run the ball this year to take pressure of Rodgers. I don't think that will be a problem as I really think Ryan Grant is on the verge of stardom and the Packers have encouraging backs behind him. The Packers defense will be the key it is going to have to be just as good as last year if not better if the Packers are to compete for a berth in the Super Bowl. The defense line and corner back positions are the areas of most concern. Also health will be huge as it is with any team. The Packers will sweep the Vikings though and take the division.

Minnesota Vikings 10-6*- There is far to much hype over this team. The Vikings should be a very good team this year however Super Bowl team? 13 win team like SI has them projected at? I will debate that. They certainly have two very good running backs. However I'm not sold on Tavaris Jackson he hasn't proven much in his short time starting. Plus the Vikings receiving corps is not something to write home about. Their defense is solid especially the run defense so that will help them. I think the Vikings will be strong this year and will give the Packers a hell of a battle for the division they will nab a wild card spot.

Chicago Bears 5-11- Where do you even start with the Bears there offense is anemic and probably will be for most of the year. They did finally make the right choice on the QB Kyle Orton is the best QB on that team. Will see they will need some strong play from there running backs now that they finally gave up on Cedric Benson also the right choice. There defense has been suspect in the pre season so will see. If there defense is not as good as it has been in years past they will struggle. They have made some right choices at least like I stated earlier. I'm also certain they will give the Packers fits.

Detroit Lions 3-13- They probably won't be that bad however there schedule is brutal and there just not that good of a team. I have never bought Jon Kitna the guy is all talk. However he is the only proven QB in our division now. That said the Lions and their fans are headed for another disappointing season.

NFC West

Seattle Seahawks 12-4- I think the Seahawks are going to be a very strong team this year they play in a crummy division which will only help them. There defense is strong and they have a great veteran QB leading the offense. The addition of Julius Jones will be huge and they will need to run the ball to be as good as I predicted. I think the Seahawks are a motivated team to as they want to send Holmgren out on a good note. Watch out for Thanksgiving the Birds visit Dallas and I get the feeling that game will be this years Dallas v Packers match up of last year. I had Seattle going into that game at 9-1 and Dallas at 8-2.

San Francisco 49ers 7-9- I think the 49ers will be a surprise team this year. They where really impressive in the pre season and I think JT O'Sulivian might just be good enough to make the Niners semi competitive. Mike Nolan is really coaching for his job too which you never know how that might effect things.

Arizona Cardinals 4-12- Maybe not that bad, but that's what I came out too. Kurt Warner beating out Matt Leinart does not bode well for this franchise future. I think Ken Wisenhunt was a good hire even though this record sounds crazy will see.

St. Louis Rams 4-12- This team is not really that good. Last year was no fluke they will be better, but not by much. Steven Jackson can not carry this team and Marc Bulger is overrated. The Rams defense is not something that will help them much either.

NFC Playoffs

Wild Card

Minnesota Vikings @ New Orleans Saints- The home field advantage will be big and the fact that New Orleans is just a better team. I think T Jack would struggle in his first playoff game and the Saints would be able to slow down AP at least a little. Saints roll to a 34-21 win.

New York Giants @ Green Bay Packers- This will be another tough game for the Packers however I think they would have a lot of pride and be pumped to get some revenge. The Packers get some revenge with a 27-24 win on a Mason Crosby field goal.

Green Bay Packers @ Dallas Cowboys- The Packers never do well there maybe A Rod could change our fortunes who knows however you have to wonder can Tony Romo do it in the playoffs. The Cowboys will win this game, but it will be close Cowboys 24-21 as Romo gets his first playoff win.

New Orleans Saints @ Seattle Seahawks- This would be an incredibly tough game for the Saints to win as the Seahawks have a major home advantage. I think this game will be a good one though and the Seahawks will squeak out a win 20-17.

Seattle Seahawks @ Dallas Cowboys- Rematch of the huge Thanksgiving game I will be pulling hard for the Seahawks and Holmgren, but I think Dallas coming of the momentum of winning their first playoff game in years will win 33-27.

Super Bowl

San Diego Chargers v Dallas Cowboys- Should be a great Super Bowl as two great offenses go up against each other. LT leads the Chargers to the win and nabs the MVP in a high scoring fun affair. San Diego wins 38-31.

This should be a really fun year there is so much to look forward too. Brett Favre with the Jets will be something to keep an eye on. How Aaron Rodgers fairs for our Packers. It should just be a fun season as I think there will be lots of good games and match ups. There also should be some great playoff battles as I think both leagues are wide open. I think in the AFC there is 4 legit Super Bowl contenders. In the NFC it is really wide open I could see about 6-7 teams with a shot at the Super Bowl. I can't see any team in the NFC winning 13 games like the Pack and Boys did last year. So sit back and enjoy another great NFL season!!!!!!!!

Kobe Bryant Is Back On Top!!!!!!

Several years ago Kobe Bryant was accused of rape by a maid who worked at a hotel he was staying at. This was the beginning of a down fall for Kobe who many considered to have a squeaky clean image. Where not going to go into all of this, but many of his fans turned there back on him. However millions stood behind him and still supported there favorite player and now we are vindicated.

What a year it has been for Kobe it did not start on a good note. Kobe was upset at the Lakers front office and rightfully so over the way they where mishandling the team since the departure of Shaq. This caused those who hate or just dislike him to call him selfish and wrong to call out the front office. It turned out his complaining lead to some big moves.

All Laker fans know what these big moves where trading for Ariza and Mitch hanging on to Bynum to start. Mitch turned out he was right over keeping Bynum as he now looks to a big piece to our puzzle in the future. Then when Bynum went down and the season was on the ropes he pulled of the Gasol trade. This propelled the Lakers on to the NBA Finals eventually and also Kobe Bryant to his best year ever. Kobe Bryant got his first MVP finally and proved to many that he could be a team player.

Then comes the Olympics you can call it the cherry on the top. Now firsts things first I don't want to hear ever again that Kobe Bryant is all about himself or not a team player. Kobe Bryant showed not only on the court, but off the court. Let's start with the off the court leadership and team player activities.

First of all Kobe Bryant and many of the other US Basketball players showed there patriotism and support to there fellow American athletes by showing up at other events during there free time. Kobe and LeBron where all over the place at many of Micheal Phelps swims and beach volleyball as well. Kobe Bryant showed that he isn't a kid anymore who sits in his hotel room by himself like many said he did at a younger age.

When Kobe Bryant's transformation to being back to where he was before all the down fall happened last night. The chips where down and the USA was up against it. Kobe was missing every shot he was taking and Spain was matching the USA blow for blow as they cut the lead down to 2. What happened I saw Kobe Bryant pumping his team mates up and keeping them focused on the task. Then Kobe Bryant went of as he either scored or assisted on 15 straight US points. Highlighted by the huge 4 point play that was so clutch.

Kobe Bryant took this US team on his back in the end and really carried the USA to the gold. Proving that he is certainly one of the best players in the world and certainly the argument can be made that he is the best in the world I would be glad to make it. Putting the cherry on the top of an incredible year as Kobe is now back on top of the world.

For the haters I suspect you will be scrambling to come up with new ways to rip on Kobe. However I must say KoMe should never ever be used again(this goes especially to you Mr. Freeman)!!!!!!!!

Kobe Bryant back on top of the world where he belongs and I'm so proud of him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chew on that humble pie haters!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Must have sucked to have to swallow your pride and root for Kobe to lead the USA to the gold when there backs where against the wall!!!!!!

State Of The Cubs: Week 15

Since Donbedouin is gone to Mexico he has asked me to do the state of the Cubs for him for this week and I have gladly accepted so here you go everybody.

57-38 first place 4.5 games up on the Cardinals, 5 up on the Brewers, and owners of the best record in baseball at the break.

The week that was:

Well what a week it was as the Cubs headed home after a long 10 game road trip that featured a bad beginning, but a great ending in winning 2 out of 3 from our closet followers. The Cubs where back at home to play three against the Reds and three against the Giants. However before any games where to take place some big news would occur. It all started on Sunday when the Brewers completed a trade to bring CC Sabathia to Milwaukee a move that prompted many Brewers fans mainly to now favor the Brewers. However Jim Hendry didn’t wait long on Tuesday afternoon it was announced that he completed a trade to bring the Cubs another ace of there own in Rich Harden and also reliever Chad Gaudin. You can read my thoughts on the this trade on my blog here it is the latest entry after this one.

Now let’s get on to the week’s analysis as it was a big week.

Game 1- On Tuesday night the Cubs played the opener of the brief home stand. A game that featured a pitching match up of Aaron Harang for the Reds and Cub all star Ryan Dempster. The Cubs got on the board early with a pair of sac flies in the 2nd and the 3rd innings. After the Reds scored one back in the 4th the Cubs where able to drive Harang from the game with a pair of 2 run homers by Geovany Soto and Mike Fontenot in the 4th and 5th. After all that Ryan Dempster went on cruise control as he went on to pitch 7 innings giving up only 2 hits, 4 walks and allowing the 1 run while striking out 5. Cotts and Marmol combined for a scoreless 8th. Howry had a few problems in the 9th, but was eventually able to finish the game and preserve a Cubs 7-3 win.

Game 2- Wednesday saw game 2 as the Cubs had Carlos Zambrano going against the Reds Johnny Cueto in what would turn out be one of Carlos Zambrano’s best pitching performances ever. Carlos gave up 1 hit which happened to be a home run by Adam Dunn, walked nobody, and striked out 5 in 8 innings. Carlos could have easily pitched the 9th inning however Lou opted for Carlos Marmol with the Cubs holding a 5-1 lead. Marmol got a couple of quick outs, but thanks to a pair of walks and an infield hit he loaded the bases and forced Lou to bring in Kerry Wood. Kerry was able to get Brandon Phillips to pop out to Derek Lee to end the game and save a Cubs win.

Game 3- Thursday afternoon the Cubs took the field looking for the sweep of the Reds. It was the Cubs Ted Lilly facing the Reds Bronson Arroyo. In the first couple of innings things looked good for the Cubs as they took a 1-0 lead and then extended that lead to 3-1 after 2 innings. However it was just not the Cubs day as Ted Lilly gave up 3 runs in the third and would not make it out of that inning. Things wouldn’t get better though as ever Cub reliever to enter the game would give up at least a one home run. The Cubs would cut an 8-3 lead into a 8-5 lead thanks to a 2 run homer by Fontenot in the 4th, but they would never get closer as they would ultimately fall to the Reds 12-7 as the Reds where powered by 7 homers on a day when the wind was blowing out.

Game 4- Friday the Cubs took the field for the first of a three game set with the Giants. This game would turn out to be a pitchers duel as both the Cubs Jason Marquis and the Giants Matt Cain would shut down the opposing teams offense as they both went 7 innings. However the Cubs would finally get on the board in the bottom of the 8th Ryan Theriot would lead off with a single. Fontenot then scarified Theriot over to second base after Lee was intentionally walked (dumb move!!!) to get to Ramirez. Ramirez came up and on the first pitch in the first meeting of Giants reliever Tyler Walker Ramirez sent a long drive down the left field line it stayed fair and was a big clutch 3 run home run putting the Cubs on top 3-0. Kerry Wood came in for the ninth and he ran into some troubles, but was eventually able to get the save as the Cubs won thanks to Mr. Clutch 3-1.

Game 5- Saturday was the long awaited debut of new Cubs pitcher Rich Harden and he would face the Giants Kevin Correia. Harden would not disappoint as the Cubs offense exploded for him early as it was the Jim Edmonds show early as he had a 2 run double and 2 run homer to help propel the Cubs to a 7-0 lead after the 4th inning. Rich Harden was dealing as he went 5.1 innings striking out 10 batters, giving up no runs on 5 hits and 3 walks throwing 96 pitches (66 of them where strikes). However the Cubs would lose the lead for him giving up 2 runs in the 8th and then in the ninth would be victims of some poor decisions by Marmol and Theriot this would allow the Giants to eventually tie the game at 7-7 and force extra innings as Marmol gave up 5 runs in the 9th. Simply stunned the Cubs used 2 shut out innings of relief from Sean Marshall to get them to the 11th. When Reed Johnson would single home Mark DeRosa for the winning run as he would slide into home just barely before the tag was applied to him.

Game 6- The final game of the home stand featured a battle of two all star pitches the Giants had Tim Lincecum throwing and the Cubs countered with Ryan Dempster who was 10-0 at home coming into the game. Ryan Dempster would be the victim of some bad luck in the third Vizquel got on for the Giants with one out and then stole second. The Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum then hit a bullet line drive to Mark DeRosa playing right DeRosa would charge it and it would unfortunately get by him and roll all the way to the wall allowing Lincecum to get a triple and giving the Giants the lead. After walking Fred Lewis and allowing him to advance to second Dempster appeared that he might get out of it. However Ray Durham was able to single home Lincecum and Lewis with 2 outs to put the Giants up 3-0. The Cubs got there first run in the 4th when Jim Edmonds doubled home Mark DeRosa after that both pitchers settled in as Lincecum went on to pitch 8 innings. Dempster would leave after 6.2 innings. The Cubs would threaten in the 8th and 9th, but it would not be there day as they lost 4-2 completing a 4-2 home stand.

All in all it was a really good week to be a Cubs fan we landed Rich Harden in a huge trade countering the Brewers trade of CC Sabathia and we had a nice 4-2 home stand which helped us add on to our lead in the NL Central.

The Week Ahead: The All Star break is upon us as the Cubs get four days off before heading to Houston for a 3 game set to begint the unofficial start of the second half of the season. It is uncertain on who will start in this series, but I can take a guess on what I think it will be.

In game 1 I fully expect Carlos Zambrano will be pitching for the Cubs it sounds like we will not have to face Roy Oswalt due to his hip injury. With Carlos Zambrano’s great success in the past against the Astros what a great way this should be to start of the half. According to I just checked they now say Lilly will be throwing the first game I do not expect that to be the plan at least I doubt it why would they throw the lefty first. I suspect it is either Z or even Demp depending on how many innings they pitch in the all star game.

In game 2 I’m hoping the Cubs will throw Rich Harden, but I have been hearing things that he may end up 4th in the rotation instead and pitch the first game of the Arizona series so not too sure.

In game 3 I would expect to see Ted Lily here cause I figure they want the lefty right in the middle of the rotation however I hear Dempster may throw this game instead only Lou knows.

My Prediction: Well it is kind of hard to predict if they go with Z, Harden, and Dempster I think they sweep the Astros. If they go with Lily first I really have no clue what to expect. So I will say we win 2 out of 3 regardless of whose pitching. Also if you want me to predict the All Star game I will say the NL wins a 6-4 battle powered by a 3 run homer in the second by Geovany Sotto in the bottom of the second scoring Bruan and Fukudome and making Clint Hurdle think maybe these guys should be higher up in the order.

Anyways sit back and relax Cubs fans we are a little over half way through the regular season and we are on pace to win 95 to 100 games which should be good enough to get us to the post season. The key is we need to stay healthy if we do I really see nothing that can stop this team. So let’s enjoy a nice little break and get back to kicking butt on Friday. Let’s Go Cubs make the second half as memorable as the first half.

Thank You Jim Hendry: Thoughts On Harden Trade!!

I'm not going to lie I was a little down after the Brewers got CC Sabathia however Jim Hendry has made me happy again!!!!!!! And I just want to extend my thanks to the Cubs great GM!!!!!!! Another great move by him and may even be his best move yet!!!!

So we land Rich Harden the best guy available on the market outside of CC this year. We got a guy however who could be a Cub for at least a few years unlike CC for the Brewers. Harden is a stud simply put when healthy and should fit in nicely in our rotation. I'm just so happy to add this guy to our rotation and we now have an absolutely wicked rotation.

Big Z an ace pitcher for sure we all know what Carlos can do.

Harden when healthy he can be any teams no. 1 pitcher and he will be our number 2 or even 3 when you consider what Dempster is doing.

Dempster he has been amazing and I totally was wrong to be against Lou and the pitching staff on moving him to the rotation!!!! We all saw tonight just how great Dempster has been this season ignore the no road wins because he should have a few.

Lily he was arguably our ace last season he came through so big last year and had a great first year in a Cubs uni. After starting 0-4 this year he is now 9-1 since and is pitching like he did last season. We have a guy who is a legit number 2 or number 3 on any staff and he is probably our 4th best.

Now the question is what do you do with the fifth spot my guess is they go with Marquis which I would prefer not, but I don't think they have much choice my guess is Marquis would throw a fit if he moved to the bullpen so maybe we look to trade him possibly. I don't know part of me would rather not because if there is an injury we could always use a vet to replace them. Even though Marshall has been great looks like he is headed to the Pen or the minors.

O and we also got Chad Gaudin in the deal looks like this guy could be a big help to us in the Pen!!!!! I just love this trade now who did we give up.

Matt Murton I love Matty, but I just don't think he was ever going to make it with the Cubs I wish him all the luck at the A's and hope he finds a starting home. Sean Gallagher started to grow on me, but it appeared he was losing his starting spot anyways to Marshall hope he gets to start in Oakland. Eric Patterson I don't know I have never really loved the guy he did have a great series at home against the Sox's that is what I will remember him for hope he turns out better then his bro. We gave up one of our top picks last year I believe in Donaldson who is a catcher since Geo Soto has come into his own in the catcher spot he is going to be there a long time I believe there really is no place for Donaldson. So all things considered a great move!!!!!

Let's Go Cubs thanks Jim Hendry for the boost and we should now start rolling again after a little bit of struggles I can't imagine too many losing streaks!!!! And many winning streaks sit back relax and enjoy Cubs fans!!!

Early Predictions For The Western Conference

Well here is my early thoughts on how next seasons Western Conference race should shape out of course much can change with the draft and free agency.

WEST (parenthesis denotes seeding in the post season)

LA Lakers(1)- Absolutely have to be the favorites to win it all if they are healthy. This team will be stacked top to bottom and will have a years more development under there belt. If Bynum comes back and plays like he did last season this team could challenge for the Bulls 72 wins record no joke.

Phoenix(4)- I like the Terry Porter hire I think he got a raw deal in Milwaukee and I think he is a solid coach certainly better than D'Asstoni!!!!!! I think the Suns will do very well next season better then the Lakers though not a chance unless the Lakers get hit by the injury bug.

Golden State- One of the more exciting teams in the league but also a team that lacks defense until they improve there and with Nelly as the coach don't count on it this team is no threat to win the division but may sneak into the playoffs and give the Lakers some trouble.

Sacramento- They have some decent young guys in Francisco Garcia and John Salmons. If there bigger 3 guys can stay healthy Artest, Miller, & Martin maybe they have a chance to compete.

LA Clippers- LA's joke of a second team not much else you can say outside of Elton Brand they are next to nothing.

New Orleans(2)- The most complete team in this brutal division Chris Paul should be even better. They will give the Lakers a run for there money for the West but ultimately I think the fact they are playing in such a though division hurts there chances of beating the already superior Lakers out for the top spot.

San Antonio(5)- This team will still hang around and they are looking poised to possibly face the Suns again in a classic first rounder. It will be interesting to see what they do this off season to improve.

Houston(6)- I would like to put this team possibly ahead of both of the teams ahead of them however I have little confidence Yao and Tracy can stay healthy all year if they can they could be a scary sleeper next season.

Dallas(8)- They should be good enough to make the post season again unfortunately for them that's about it once again you can sense Dallas time has come and gone.

Memphis- Is there hope in Memphis maybe if Jarvaris Crittenton improves and if they can get something useful out of the Lakers pick.

Utah(3)- This team should be pretty rock solid next season as they bring back pretty much the same team intact. You can sense they are part of the new big 3 out West and that is the Lakers, Hornets, & Utah as the old big 3 Dallas, San Antonio, and Phoenix begin to fade out.

Portland(7)- I think the Blazers will be very interesting to watch next season as Greg Oden takes his official rookie lap in this league. They should make the post season and provide a scare to whoever they play in the first round.

Denver- Lot's of questions with this team what do you do with Carmello Anthony and AI? They need defense that's for sure.

Sonics- Well whatever the hell they are going to be called I think they will improve being in a new city and not having to deal with it being there last season in a place. Kevin Durant will continue to flourish into a good young player.

Minnesota- Kevin McHale should be fired for giving the Celtics Kevin Garnett and the Celtics should also be thanking him big time for one of the reason why they won it.

Out With The Old In With The New: Laker WCF Recap

I had a huge blog written out and my computer froze me up thus I lost it all I can't even believe this so bare with me as I try to write this slightly less in depth version I'm so ticked right now!!!!!!!

Lakers With Western Conference Trophy

The Lakers defeat the Spurs in 5 games as this series proved to still be entertaining as the Lakers passed what many doubters believed to be there first true test of the post season.

Game 1- This game saw the Spurs come out and dominate the Lakers for 2 and a half quarters as the Spurs ran there way all the way to a 20 point lead with just under 6 minutes to go in the third. This prompted many Lakers fans including myself to be very mad and even caused several of us to stop watching including myself who left for a whole 5-10 minutes before I just had to come back and hang in with my Lakers. The Lakers wouldn't let us down on this night as they came storming back to win by a score of 89-85 they where led by Kobe Bryant who scored 25 of his 27 points in the second half and proved once again to the world why he is the best player in this league and why he is the MVP. Pau Gasol had his best game of the series with 19 points and 7 rebounds. As the Lakers prove they could win games when the score is under 100 much less 90.

Game 2- This game was interesting in the first half as even though the Lakers seemed to be dominate the Spurs had us in a tie with the first half nearing an end however the Lakers ended the half with an impressive run that took us to a 9 point led at the half. In the second half it was all Lakers as we saw the bench's clear and the Lakers run to a 101-71 romp of the Spurs. We saw the official return of Jordan Farmar as he scored 14 big points. Trevor Ariza made his long awaited return from injury and nailed the first shot he took. Kobe was Kobe scoring 22 points, grabbing 5 boards, and dishing out 5 assists.

Game 3- Game 3 saw the return of Manu Ginobili for the Spurs as he showed where Manu goes the Spurs go. He scored 30 points and led the way to the Spurs romp of the Lakers after the first quarter. Tim Duncan had 22 and Tony Parker 20 to help propel the Spurs to a 103-84 romp of the Lakers. The Spurs hit some ridiculous 3's that helped along the way as they shot hot and played there best game of the series. The Lakers got 30 points from Bryant and 15 from Gasol.

Game 4- Perhaps the game of the series the Lakers came out and rolled to a 22-8 lead however the Spurs had cut that lead down to 5 by the end of the first. The Lakers and Spurs then played about as even basketball as can be as the Lakers only outscored the Spurs by 1 point in each of the next two quarters to take a 7 point lead into the fourth. The fourth quarter featured two teams that could not really find the bucket for much of the quarter but then the Lakers got a spark as Lamar and Kobe led the Lakers to a 93-86 lead with just under a minute to go and Gasol at the line shooting free throws however Gasol would miss both and the Spurs would go down and Manu Ginobili hit a 3 to cut the lead to 4 in what would be 3 of Manu's 7 points only.
On the next Laker possession Kobe made a rookie like mistake taking the ball and driving it all the way down to the hoop and shooting a layup early in the shot clock the shot would be missed and the Spurs got the ball to Tony Parker who was able to get out in transition and put up a layup that would eventually be called a goal tend by Lamar Odom. This left the Lakers only up by 2 with some 30 seconds left. The Lakers took the ball down court and ran the shot clock down eventually giving way to a Derek Fisher 3 that missed but hit of Robert Horry's leg and went out of bounds keeping the ball in Lakers hands. However the officials despite the replays showing the ball had hit the rim on Fishers shot never reset the shot clock so this left the Lakers with 2 second shot clock and 5 some seconds left in the game. Kobe Bryant took the inbounds pass and threw up a fade away jump shot that would miss the Spurs would get the timeout and advance the ball setting up a potential game winning shot.
The Spurs inbounded it to Brent Barry who pump faked Fisher into the air however instead of going up and drawing contact Barry tried to drive around Fisher he was then forced to throw up a miracle shot that was way off sealing a 93-91 win for the Lakers. This would draw controversy however Charles Barkley put it best on inside the NBA after the game Barry did not sell the foul as in he should of gone up and got contact which would have rewarded him free throws for sure instead of trying to go around Fisher. Plus Brent Barry may have traveled and when you consider calls where in the Spurs favor most of the game everything pretty much evened out despite something that may or may not have been a bad call. The Lakers hang on take a 3-1 series lead led by Kobe Bryant with 28 and Lamar Odom with 16.

Game 5- Was very much like game 1 the Spurs came out and took a big lead as they had as much as a 17 point lead at 33-16 early in the second quarter. However much like game 1 the Lakers came storming back this time much earlier as the Lakers cut the lead to 6 by the half giving myself a very good feeling that we would win. The Lakers played an excellent third quarter which was capped by a Vladimir Radmanovich 3 that gave the Lakers a slim 1 point lead heading into the fourth. Kobe Bryant came right out in the fourth nailing a 3 that would set the tone for the Lakers. Jordan Farmar made an incredible reverse layup that turned out to be one of my favorite shots of the series to help the Lakers pull away. The Spurs wouldn't quite die but Kobe Bryant proved to be too much hitting some big shots down the stretch and the Lakers hit some key free throws as they where able to finish of the Spurs at home with a big time 100-92 win. Kobe Bryant had 39 points and Pau Gasol had a career high 19 rebounds.

Biggest surprise of the series

Return of the bench officially especially at home. The bench was so key and helped spark the Lakers main guys in many instances in this series. They where led by the return of Jordan Farmar who came up huge in this series hitting several key shots. Also Sasha Vujacic played some solid defense on Manu Ginobili for the most part.

Biggest disappointment of this series

Pau Gasol he was just not good on the defensive end as he shows why we miss Bynum. Duncan was able to pretty much get whatever he wanted on the offensive end of his game. Pau Gasol was not very good offensively either as he only averaged 13.2 points in the series which is unacceptable. As he missed many easy shots and just was not very aggressive to the basket. A close second could be D Fish who really struggled offensively however he did do a pretty solid job on the defense of Parker I thought.

Areas that need improvement

The Bench- They came back in a big way this series but there is always room for improvement especially on the road where they are still having struggles. We will need more from them on the road in the finals against Boston.

Pau and Fisher- We need more from these two they are both so key to our success see above for more comments on them.

This was such a great series as the Lakers just showed me even more. I was so impressed with there play and there big comebacks which where so impressive. Kobe Bryant amazed me once again as he just put on a show in this series a show that many compare to MJ now. Kobe may just be on the fast track to being better then Micheal Jordan and that is just amazing. I'm so dang proud of this team what a season it has been as the dynasty torch was hopefully passed in this series. The Lakers showed how there youth and talent was far better then the Spurs old, tired, and streaky offense. On to the Finals it is as we get the dream matchup of Lakers v Celtics please stay tuned for my Finals preview blog coming up very soon but for now feel free to leave comments on this one.
