Let the Steelers conspiracy theories begin

Let me adjust my tinfoil hat and close the blinds while I relate the latest sports conspiracy theory.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have no primetime games in the first half of the season but five in the second half.

The Steelers.

The freaking Steelers.

One of the biggest, gold standard names in sports.

No primetime games until Oct. 31 and they don't face a playoff team until Week Four.

Think about that for a second.

It almost seems as if the schedule makers were accounting for a suspension of Ben Roethlisberger, eh?

But no way that would happen. No way at all.

Never, ever.

Right? Right?

Is that a black helicopter overhead?

Steelers wait...

MIAMI -- The Steelers did their part in beating a battered, undermanned Dolphins team that lost its first two quarterbacks to injuries, so for now, Pittsburgh spends the next few hours just waiting.

This was a brutal and physically punishing game, won by the Steelers, 30-24, at Landshark Stadium where there were more Steelers fans than Dolphins fans.

For the next few hours the Steelers are still alive in the playoff picture as remote as their chances are.

If Jets and Ravens both win they are in and Steelers are done. Pittsburgh needs the Jets, Ravens and Broncos to all lose to get in.

CBSSports.com will update the Steelers' status later on Sunday night.

There was one moment in the game that was frightening for both teams. Quarterback Pat White was injured on a helmet to helmet tackle by Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor. White looked to be knocked unconscious and was motionless for several minutes before being taken off the field on a cart. The Dolphins announced he suffered a head injury but said nothing further.

Horrible behavior

The Associated Press is reporting that the woman who accused Ben Roethlisberger of rape recently filed a police report claiming she's received dozens of harassing phone calls.

This is definitely believable and if accurate whoever's doing it should spend some time in prison.

It's gutless, cowardly, disgusting, disgraceful and did I mention gutless?

How about we let the civil lawsuit play itself out, cowardly and anonymous callers? Attempting to intimidate the woman into dropping the suit is un-American, at best, and might be against the law.

One message allegedly said that "something's going to happen" if she didn't walk away from the case.

It's frightening the dark and ugly corners in some people's minds.

Pit bulls and kids don't mix

Hopefully James Harrison's son isn't seriously injured and it sounds like he'll be fine after Harrison's pit bull attacked the 2-year-old. That's the good news.

The bad news: Harrison never apparently learned that pit bulls and kids don't mix.

I'm sure I'll hear from pit bull owners who will say the dogs are loyal and gentle. Sure they are. If pit bulls are gentle, I'm Denzel Washington.

Have you ever heard of a deadly Lhasa Apso attack?

That's what I thought.

Harrison might as well have left a loaded gun around his son. Something like this was bound to happen. Because it's a freaking pit bull. That's what they do. Attack things.

Hopefully Harrison can give the dog to a loving couple...a couple without kids.
