Weather taking turn for worse

PHILADELPHIA -- It's cold and windy here tonight as I write this at 5:50 p.m. EDT, and what's worse, is rain is on the way.

According to AccuWeather.com, it will be raining at 7 p.m., though the wet stuff will be gone and it will simply be cloudy at 49 degrees at 9 p.m., dropping to 48 degrees at 11 p.m. The first pitch of Game 5 is scheduled for 8:29 p.m.

The weather's turn for the worse may not help Tampa Bay, which already is facing elimination this evening. The Rays this season are 5-11 when the temperature is below 60 degrees.

Baseball officials still think tonight's game will go on, partly because the forecast they're working with calls for light rain early and partly because Tuesday's forecast is really bad -- driving rain all day and temperatures in the 30s.

So the thinking is that, yes, they'll figure out a way to get tonight's game in.

"Unless I see animals walking two-by-two down Main St.," quipped Jimmie Lee Solomon, executive vice-president for baseball operations.
