Gordon is one-and-done

SAN ANTONIO -- Eric Gordon is entering the NBA Draft.

That should come as no surprise.

A source close to the situation told CBSSports.com that Gordon essentially made up his mind long ago, and now it's just a matter of making a formal announcement. Initially, that formal announcement was to come at a Monday press conference. But a Friday morning story in the Indianapolis Star might expedite the process and force the Gordons to speak publicly before the weekend.

Either way, none of this caught Tom Crean off guard.

A source said the new Indiana coach met with Gordon after he was hired Wednesday but didn't really make a push to try to convince Gordon to remain at Indiana for his sophomore year. Crean, according to the source, basically told Gordon he understood why he was entering the draft and agreed with the decision before adding that if he needed him to help in any way he'd be eager and willing to assist.

Meantime, a high-level NBA executive -- speaking on the condition of anonymity -- told CBSSports.com that Gordon is "in a bunch of about seven prospects" that will compete to be selected after Derrick Rose and Michael Beasley go No. 1 and No. 2 in some order of the NBA Draft. According to the NBA executive, Brook Lopez will be the "safe" pick at No. 3, but Gordon could go that high if he works out well. More likely, the source said, Gordon will go somewhere between No. 5 and No. 10 and is at no risk of falling out of the lottery.
