Virginia Commonwealth(65) - Barely in. Taken over Illinois State because they won their conference outright by two games.
New Mexico(64) - Their last 12 games helps them get in, despite losing to UNLV on their home floor in the MWC semis.
Dayton(63) - A strong Atlantic 10 tournament showing with the return of Chris Wright will help. Also, out of my final 16 bubble teams competing for 10 spots, they had the best record vs. the RPI Top 100 by far.
Mississippi(62) - Show me a team with a better record vs. the RPI Top 50/Top 100.

LAST 4 OUT:

Illinois State(66) - VCU gets the nod over them. They needed to stay competitive with Drake and didn't.
Temple(67) - I'll put them in if they make the Atlantic 10 final. I think they have a great chance to do that, but until they do I just can't put them in as much as I want to.
UAB(68) - Losing by 40 points never helps. Even if they make the C-USA final(which I am projecting them to) I don't think it will be enough.
Syracuse(69) - Too little, too late. Must beat Georgetown. Playing them extremely close may not do it.

NEXT 4 OUT:

Oregon(70) - Too little too late like Syracuse. Must beat Washington State.
Villanova(71) - Loses an elimination game vs. Syracuse
Ohio State(72) - Won't beat Michigan State again. If they do, they are in my field.
Saint Joseph's(73) - Must make Atlantic 10 final. They have an easy path to the semifinals, but they have to beat Xavier again to complete the job.

A: Drake won't finish strong(loss in MVC semis), and Butler has not beaten any teams in my projected field.

Q: How do you predict conference tournaments?
A: I don't use a computer, I use my mind.

Gah, the bubble is SO weak. In years past its trying to find the 34 best at-large teams. This year, its  trying to find out the teams who suck the least. Will someone try to play their ways in rather than play their ways out? You think that a team had played their way out of the field with a loss(see: New Mexico) but with EVERY bubble team seeming to lose, the bar for at-large bids is lower and lower so those teams find their way back into the field. It's like a game of limbo - how low can we go? So if you think this bracketology sucks, too bad. Until the bubble clears up(IF it ever clears up) I am just going to take who I think is most deserving.

I have had people say that I have no idea what I am doing when making my bracket projections.

I have been doing this since 2003, and have been quite successful. The reason mine seem so different than the rest on the Bracket Matrix and others like Lunardi/Parrish is because I predict teams future records. Once March closes in and we near Selection Sunday, my brackets begin to reflect everyone else's because there are less games to predict and trends are easier to establish.

The past two years have been hard to predict, as predicting 62/65 teams seems to be the status quo for the bracketologies around the internet. This is mostly because some strange and unexpected at-large teams are being put into the field the past two years, such as Air Force and Utah State in 2006 and Illinois/Arkansas in 2007 that no one really could have logically expected(even though I correctly predicted Utah State getting in in 2006).
