Conference Tournament Previews: CAA

I am going to preview every single conference tournament one by one. Instead of what I initially started I am going to do them all on separate blog entries because I feel like this will give everyone a chance to discuss these conference tournaments. It will give them a home where everyone can join in and post their thoughts. Please comment.

CAA Conference Tournament:

First Round:
#8 Georgia State (March 6th)
#9 Delaware State

#5 Hofstra (March 6th)
#12 UNC Wilmington

#7 James Madison (March 6th)
#10 William & Mary

#6 Drexel (March 6th)
#11 Townson

Quarterfinals
#1 VCU (March 7th)
Georgia State/Delaware State

#4 Old Dominion
Hofstra/UNC Wilmington

#2 George Mason
James Madison/William & Mary

#3 Northeastern
Drexel/Towson

Semifinals: March 8th

Championship: March 9th

Prediction: This league has three very good teams that must casual fans haven't had the chance to watch. Virgina Commonwealth, George Mason, and Northeastern can all win this tournament and all make a small run in the NCAA Tournament. It's hard to pick against the #1 seed in any conference tournament, and it's even harder to pick against an experienced team like VCU. Eric Maynor and the Rams are ready to get back to the NCAA Tournament.

Conference Tournament Previews: Big South

I am going to preview every single conference tournament one by one. Instead of what I initially started I am going to do them all on separate blog entries because I feel like this will give everyone a chance to discuss these conference tournaments. It will give them a home where everyone can join in and post their thoughts. Please comment.

Big South Conference Tournament:

Quarterfinals
#2 VMI (March 3rd)
#7 Coastal Carolina

#3 Liberty (March 3rd)
#6 Gardner Webb

#1 Radford (March 3rd)
#8 High Point

#4 UNC Asheville (March 3rd)
#5 Winthrop

Semifinals:
VMI/Coastal Carolina Winner (March 5th)
Liberty/Gardner Webb Winner

Radford/High Point (March 5th)
UNC Asheville/Winthrop

Championship: March 7th

Prediction: Radford has been playing the best basketball, which is kind of obvious since they have the #1 seed. VMI is the #2 seed and is pretty experienced. Remember VMI knocked off Kentucky in the Wildcats season opener, sending shockwaves around the entire country. It's crazy how much things have changed. Last year Winthrop played UNC Asheville for the conference championship, and this year they meet in round one. My money is on VMI to win the tourney with their high scoring style of play.

Conference Tournament Previews: Atlantic Sun

I am going to preview every single conference tournament one by one. Instead of what I initially started I am going to do them all on separate blog entries because I feel like this will give everyone a chance to discuss these conference tournaments. It will give them a home where everyone can join in and post their thoughts. Please comment.

Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament:

Quarterfinals
#4 Lipscomb (March 5th)
#5 Campbell

#3 Belmont (March 5th)
#6 Mercer

#2 East Tennessee State (March 4th)
#7 Stetson

Semifinals
#1 Jacksonville (March 6th)
Lipscomb/Campbell Winner

Belmont/Mercer Winner (March 6th)
Steston/East Tennessee State Winner

Championship: March 7th

Prediction: Usually these smaller conference tournaments can be a toss up. I really think three teams have a legit chance at being the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament champion. I had Belmont before the season, but both Jacksonville and East Tennessee State are playing extremely well. I wouldn't be surprised if either of those two teams win it. Yet even with that I have to go with Belmont in an upset.  Anything short of a NCAA Tournament appearance would be devastating to the Bruins.

Five Early Conference Tournament Previews

Finally conference tournaments are about to start in two days on March 3rd. This is very important because the winner receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and has a chance to win the national championship. Therefore I will follow these games very intensely. It's a shame that the smaller conference tournaments do not receive a lot of attention. Fortunately for those who care they will here.

I am planning on previewing every single conference tournament. Since only five conferences have released their official bracket those are the only ones I am previewing at this point. Below you will find the Atlantic Sun, Big South, CAA, Horizon, and Patriot League brackets as well as a preview. There are 25 more conference tournaments on the way as well.

Horizon League Conference Tournament:

First Round
#3 Cleveland State (March 3rd)
#10 Detroit

#6 Youngstown State (March 3rd)
#7 Illinois-Chicago

#4 Wright State (March 3rd)
#9 Valparaiso

#4 Loyola (March 3rd)
#5 Wisconsin-Milwaukee

Quarterfinals
Valparaiso/Wright State Winner (March 6th)
Loyola/Wisconsin-Milwaukee Winner

Cleveland State/Detroit
Youngstown State/Illinois-Chicago

Semifinals
Val/WSU/Loy/WM Winner (March 7th)
#1 Butler

Clev/Det/Young/ICU Winner (March 7fh)
#2 Wisconsin- Green Bay

Championship: March 10th

Prediction: Most casual college basketball fans don't realize it but there are actually two very good teams in the Horizon League. Everyone knows about Butler, and regardless what happens here they are going dancing. Wisconsin-Green Bay has to win the conference tournament to get into the NCAA Tournament, but do not put it past them. I would not be surprised one bit if Green Bay pulls the upset and makes the Horizon League a two bid league. I'm going with Butler though.

Patriot League Conference Tournament

Quar terfinals:
#8 Lafayette (March 4th)
#1 American

#5 Lehigh (March 4th)
#4 Army

#7 Bucknell (March 4th)
#2 Holy Cross

#6 Colgate (March 4th)
#2 Navy

Semifinals:
Lafayette/American Winner (March 8th)
Lehigh/Army Winner

Bucknell/Holy Cross Winner (March 8th)
Colgate/Navy Winner

Championship: March 13th

Prediction: Last season the Patriot League was a battle between American and Navy all season. This year it looks like it could end up the same way. American won the regular season title and is my pick to win the conference tournament. One of the more interesting first round matchups has Bucknell taking on Holy Cross, two pretty big rivals in the league. Don't be surprised if there's a Cinderella run but put your money on American.
