February 25 Bracketology

It was so difficult to make this bracket. I re-examined all of my final at large teams by putting them into a table. I had narrowed it down to three teams left fighting for two bids. It came down to Syracuse, Ohio State, and Florida. The easiest tiebreaker is head to head, so I quickly moved Ohio State into the field after realizing they have already beaten Syracuse and Florida this season. Then I compared Florida and Syracuse's resumes. I think the Gators need 10 SEC wins to be considered and they only have one decent win so far (against Vanderbilt). Therefore I put Syracuse in my field due to their wins over Villanova, Georgetown, and St. Josephs.

Sunday's Bracketogy (After all Sunday's games)

February 24 Bracketology

It was a hard day to be a bracketologist. Just to break down a few things that changed in my bracket:

  • Georgetown's win over Cincinnati, and Connecticut's 10 game winning streak coming to an end against Villanova caused many changes. First the Huskies and Hoyas swapped seed lines and then Villanova joined the field with their third straight Big East win. The way I look at it is if Syracuse is in the field (which most people agree they are) then Nova has to be also (same Big East record and a head to head win against the Cuse').
  • Texas takes the last No. 1 seed away from Kansas. The Longhorns have defeated three teams on the top two seed lines, having victories against Tennessee, UCLA, and Kansas--which is absolutely amazing. Those teams have a total of 8 losses and 3 of them have come to Texas.
  • Kansas State and Texas A&M are two Big 12 teams that have seen their great times in my bracket (both have been No. 3 seeds at one time or another) but both are now in danger of falling out of my bracket all together. Both lost bad games on Saturday (to Nebraska and Baylor) and have fallen to 7 & 9 seeds. Kansas State should be lower but honestly none of the No. 8 seeds deserve to move up to 7 line either.
  • Miami's great start......terrible losing streak.....and comeback from the dead may be the story of the year in college basketball. After beating Duke the Hurricanes rejoined my bracket and with another win (along with everyone else trying to play themselves out of the tournament it seems) Miami is up to a No. 9 seed in this bracket.
  • Breaking down the Bubble Picture:
    • 26 locks ( all teams on the top 6 seed lines + St. Mary's & Clemson)
    • Here's Guessing there's about 15 at large spots available
