Red Sox 09 Season Preview

Well guys, maybe this is a little earlier but in my mind it's never too early to talk about my beloved Sox! The Red Sox haven't made many offseason moves, yet, of course. Were still in the running to land superstar 1st Basemen Mark Teixeira. He would be a big improvement to the Sox line up in the heart of the order. It should be interesting if he picks the Sox to play for. It would be difficult to shuffle there line up if they do aquire him, with the current line up they have. They would most likely have to trade a player away to make room for him. I've heard some reports that they will be trading away Mike Lowell away, most likely moving Youkilis back to 3rd and having Teixeira play.

Offseason Moves

The Sox haven't made a ton of offseason moves, but have made a few.

  • The Sox lost Minor Leaguers LF Joe Thurstons and C David Ross
  • Signed 4 players to Minor League Deals

All in all, a pretty quiet offseason so far for the Red Sox. Signing Mark Teixeira would make the Sox offseason in my mind. What this guy brings to the table will make our team last much better. He's looking to sign long term, so if he does sign the Sox would have him for awhile unless something happened. I heard reports the Sox offered 200 million, if that's true he would probably sign, because I think the Angels went as high at 160 million and I'm pretty sure that was the best offer.

SS Julio Lugo, Quadriceps, Expected to be ready for Spring Training
DH David Ortiz,  Wrist, Expected to be ready for Spring Training
3B, Mike Lowell, Hip, Hoping to be ready for Spring Training

Projected 09 Starting Line up.

1. CF Jacoby Ellsbury
2. 2B Dustin Pedroia
3. DH David Ortiz
4. LF Jason Bay
5.1B Kevin Youkilis
6. RF J.D. Drew
7. 3B Mike Lowell
8. SS Jed Lowrie
9. C Jason Variteck

We should have no trouble hitting the ball and scoring a lot of runs next season. There are some questions in the starting line up. As I'm not sure if Variteck will be playing for the Sox next year and if the Sox are going to sign Mark Teixeira, which would change up the line up because a trade would probably be made. The line up is currently strong though and only would get stronger with Mark Teixeira.

Projected 09 Starting Rotation

1. Josh Beckett
2. Daisuke Matsuzaka
3. Jon Lester
4. Tim Wakefield
5. Justin Masterson

I think the top 3 spots will be very solid with Beckett, Matsuzaka, and Lester. Now the bottom 2 with Wakefield and Masterson could be changed around through the season. I'm thinking Wakefield will have a decent season, but with his age, you never know. The 5th spot could change from Masterson to anyone like Buchholz, Pauley, and some more minor league options. The Sox new pitcher Junichi Tazawa, a rookie from Japan has a chance to be in the starting rotation. You may also see home of them in the Bull Pen.

Projected 09 Bull Pen

Closer: Jonathan Papelbon
Possible Set up: Ramon Ramirez
Possible Set up: Manny Delcarmen
Possible Set up: Hideki Okajima
Possible Set up: Javier Lopez
Another Option: David Aardsma
Another Option: Wes Littleton

There are some minor leaguers and other pitchers that have a chance to be in the Sox pen, but it's hard to tell right now. I'm pretty sure the ones I listed will be in the pen, or atleast the top 5. Everyone I listed as possible set up man has a legit chance of being our set up man. I'm thinking Ramon Ramirez has a great chance of being our set up guy, but it's hard to tell right now. The Bull Pen does look pretty solid at this point.

09 Prediction

I think the Sox have a great chance of doing that they did last year, making it to the ALCS and having a chance to play in the World Series. Our young players developed a lot last year and should be better next year. I think our starting line up has a great chance to score a lot of runs and our 1, 2, 3 with Beckett, Matsuzaka, Lester should win us a lot of games. It'll be interesting to see how the 4th and 5th spot play in the Sox rotation, because that will be important if the Sox can string together long winning streaks in the regular season and make a playoff berth. We also gotta wait and see where Mark Teixeira goes, because if he picks Boston, will be looking very strong. Overall I think the Sox are in for a good 09 season.

Go Sox!!!!

Celtics Season Prediction

As a die hard Celtic fan, winning the NBA finals last year, was amazing to see but I wanna see the same this year. I think if you talk to any Celtic fans, there gonna say we can win it again. It'll be interesting to see what the Celtics can do this year. As of right now there 23-2, that's an amazing start and could that possibly lead to the best regular season in NBA history? Now I know the 96 Bulls won 72 games, but can the Celtics win 72+ games this year? I honestly think that is possible and the Celtics have a legit chance. Now you think about it, about 1/4 of the season is over and only 2 losses, at this point last you they had 3. Rajon Rondo is playing better and is developing into a great NBA point guard and I think that is key if the Celtics have any chance of winning 72+ games. Last year, Rondo was afraid to score the ball. He had a great supporting cast, so it's not like he was encouraged to to much scoring. All he really had to do was dish the ball to players like Pierce, Allen, and Garnett, but because he wasn't scoring the ball, defenses weren't playing up on him. This year he's doing a lot of driving to the hoop and playing more aggresive. He's forcing the defense to cover him as he's become a legit threat to score. The more and more Rondo's developes into a scroing threat, the better the Celtics are going to be. He's in my mind the x factor for the Celtics season. If Rondo can score the ball, I think the Celtics can win 72+ games. If Rondo trys to do more then he can handle and only hurts the team, there chances at winning 72+ aren't very high.

Now let's get real. Only one team in the history of the game has won 72 games and that was the Bulls in 96 as I said. Can the Celtics do it? It's a question I've been thinking about and I want some honest feedback on. I think the Celtics will challenge the Bulls 72-10 mark and maybe just maybe lose a single diget amount of games, meaning they would win 73+ games. I think the Celtics can do it? Any thoughts on this?

Patriots vs Cardinals Preview

I know this is coming a little early, but this is a huge game for the Patriots. They need to win to keep there playoff hopes alive. They of course don't control there own destiny, they will need help to make the playoffs. A Ravens loss Saturday night vs the Cowboys, would be a big help to getting the wild card if they can't win there division. Now the Ravens losing to the Cowboys could very well happen, so will have to stay tuned for Saturday night. Anyways, the Pats gotta take care of the Cardinals on Sunday to even have a chance, so that's whats important here. This should be a fun game, so let's get started.

It's still a little to far in the future to know what the weather is, but let's hope we have a decent day in Foxborough.

Gillette Stadium, Foxborugh, Mass.

I think the Pats will take care of them, plain and simple. They NEED this game, the Cardinals already have there ticket punched in the weak NFC West, so there really not playing for much more then playoff seeding, which is important but not as important as fighting for your playoff live, like the Pats are. The Cardinals are also coming across country to play this game and teams havn't had much success coming from the West Coast to play on the East Coast at 1:00 PM, so I'm going to say the Pats win 24-10.

Celtics vs Hawks Preview

The Celtics are on a roll, now winners of 15 straight contests. The Celtics have a test tomorrow night in Atlanta when they will be taking on the Hawks. The Hawks almost beat the Celtics earlier this year in Boston, it took a miracle shot with 0.5 left to go by Paul Pierce to beat them. This game should be just as entertaining.

Boston Celtics

The Celtics are 23-2 on the season and are on tops of the NBA. They will look to extend there streak to 16 games in this one. Here's my projected starting line up.

C: Kendrick Perkins
PF: Kevin Garnett
SF: Paul Pierce
SG: Ray Allen
PG: Rajon Rondo

Atlanta Hawks

The Hawks are 15-9 and look like there in for a solid season and another playoff berth. It's still early, but they have impressed me. There coming off a 83-79 win vs Charlotte. Here's my projected starting line up.

C: Al Horford
PF: Zaza Pachulia
SF: Josh Smith
SG: Joe Johnson
PG: Mike Bibby

This is gonna be a true test for the Celtics. The Hawks seem to always play them tight and are playing on there home floor, a place the Celtics went 0-3 in the playoffs last year. Expect the fans to into this game and to have a packed house. Paul Pierce could miss this game after have Okur rolling over his knee with 31 seconds left in the Celtics win over the Jazz Monday night. I'm pretty sure he will play, but if he doesn't, the Celtics might be in trouble. I think the Celtics win, 95-88.

Patriots vs Raiders

Well Patriot fans, we have a big tomorrow vs the Raiders. We sit at 8-5 and tied at the top of the AFC East, so we need to win this game. It should be interesting contest vs the 3-10 Raiders. Now we might have taken the 2-11 Seahawks a little lightly last Sunday, so we can't do that again. I didn't think that they had a good chance to beat us and we were a good drive from Matt Cassel and the Patriots offense away from losing and basically taking ourselves out of the playoff picture. The Raiders are playing at home, so that plays to a big advantage to Oakland. If this game was being playing in New England, I'd pick the Pats, but because it's being played in Oakland, I'm not too sure. The game is being played at 4:15 ET.

McAfee Stadium
Oakland, California

Weather Report

Light Rain
51 Degress
12 MPH Win

I'm going to go with the Patriots in this one. This should be a hard fought game, played in front of the Oakland Fans. Now, Cassel is expected to play and did practice with the team this week, but that should play a big factor in this game in a good or bad way. We all remember Favres Monday Night game vs the Raiders after his father died, so maybe Cassel will play the game of his live, in his fathers honor. If he wasn't able to go, Kevin O'Connell the 3rd round pick out of San Diego State would start in his place. Now though O'Connell has a lot of talent, I'm not sure I want him starting for the Pats tomorrow, not sure anyone would wanna see that. Anyways, I'm stikk picking the Patriots to win, 27-17.

Celtics Week 7 Review

Well this review is coming a little earlier, but the Celtics don't play on Sunday, so the week is over. The Celtics had 2 games this week and won them both, so you can't complain. They played the Wizards and Hornets. The Celtics as I said won both games and improved there record to 22-2  and extended there winning streak to 14 games.

Thursday, December 4th
Washing Wizards

On Thursday the Celtics took on the Wizards in D.C. I predicted this game to be a close hard fought game, as you probably know I was completely wrong. The Celtics simply pounded the Wizards in front of there home fans. The Celtics jumped on the Wizards early and were up 10+ during the 1st Qtr. The Celtics ended up ending the 1st Qtr up 36-21. The Celtics continued to play well in the 2nd Qtr and went into the locker room up 63-39. The 3rd Qtr favored the Wizards, but putting yourself down 24 at the half is a hard hold to dig out of. The Wizards outscored the Celtics 35-26 in the 3rd Qtr and made a dent into the Celtics big lead, but that wasn't enough to come back. The Celtics went on to win the game, 122-88. The leading scorers for the Celtics were Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, both of them dropping 22 points. Perkins had 12 points while Kevin Garrnett and Rajon Rondo rounded out the starting 5 with 11 points a piece. The Celtics had 7 players score in double figures as Eddie House and Tony Allen came off the bench to score 14 and 10 points respectivly. The Washington Wizards were lead by Caron Butler who scored 19 points. This was a good win for the Celtics

Friday, December 5th
New Orleans Hornets

On Friday night the Celtics were coming off there blow out with of the Wizards when they played the New Orleans Hornets at home. This was back to back games for the Celtics, so it was intresting to see how well they would play. To say the least, they played well. I predicted the Celtics to win in this one and they didn't let me down. The 1st Qrt was tight, both teams exchanging baskets and some lead changes. The Qtr ended with a 21-21 tie. The 2nd Qtr wasn't much different, the Hornets won the Qtr 19-18 and took a 1 point, 40-39 lead into the break. The 3rd Qtr was won by Boston, both teams were playing good defense in this one as the score was 69-64 at the end of 3. This game, unlike the game the night before for the Celtics would be won or lost in the 4th Qtr. The Celtics played great defense and only allowed 18 points and ended up winning the game by 12, 94-82. Paul Piece again lead the Celtics in points as he put in 28 points. The Celtics had 2 other scorers in double figures, Kevin Garnetts 19 and Rajon Rondos 10. Ray Allen and Kendrick Perkins rounded out the Celtics starting 5 with 9 points a piece. Eddie House also came off the Celtics bench with 9 points. This was another quality win for the Celtics.

As a Celtic fan, I can't complain. They played well in both games and ended the week at 2-0. Beating the Wizards by 34 on the road, was the best game of the week in my mind, but beating the Hornets by 12 at home is also another quality win. The Celtics as I've pointed out won both games this week by double digits. You can't do much better then that. All in all a good week for the Celtics.

Celtics vs Hornets Preview

Last night the Celtics beat up on the Wizards to improve there record to 21-2, the best start in team history. They also extended there winning streak to 13 games with the 122-88 beating of the Wizards. Now up for tonight is the New Orleans Hornets. The Hornets sit 12-6 ans should test the Celtics winning streak. The Hornets are tied with Houston for the lead in the Southwest Division. Bryon Scott has done a excellent job coaching this team, since he arrived. This game will be played in the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston, should be a fun game.

Here are my projected starting line ups.

New Orleans

C: Tyson Chandler
PF:  David West
SF: Peja Stojakovic
SG: Rasual Butler
PG: Chris Paul

C: Kendrick Perkins
PF: Kevin Garnett
SF: Paul Pierce
SG: Ray Allen
PG: Rajon Rondo

Well, last night I predicted the Celtics and Wizards games completely wrong. I picked that game to be tight in the 4th and the Celtics to only win 103-94, so as you see I was way off. I also think this game will be close. The Celtics are playing back to back, so that plays into the hands of the Hornets. The Hornets are also a better team then the now, 4-16 Wizards. I see the Celtics jumping on the Hornets Early, there playing on there home floor in Boston, so they should be pumped and ready to go. I think the Celtics will open up a quick double digit lead in the 1st half and take the lead into the locker room at half time. I do expect Byron Scott to make some adjustments and have his team ready for the 2nd half. I see the Hornets and Celtics both making some runs in the 2nd half, trying to control the game. You'll probably see a lot of lead changes in the 2nd half. I do see the Celtics winning, 104-97.

Celtics vs Wizards Preview

The Celtics and Wizards play tonight at 8:00 PM in D.C. The Celtics who are on a 12 game winning streak stand at 20-2 and at the top at the NBA, the Wizards are 4-15 right now and are having trouble winning ball games.  Interim head coach Ed Tapscott hasn't been having much success since taking over. Now I could see this game getting out of hand early, but I expect the Wizards to play a hard fought game on there home floor. I plan on watching a high intensity game, with two teams that wanna win. Now I know the Wizards are 4-15, but because there playing at home, I don't expect a bad effort from them.

Here are my projected starting line ups.

Washing Wizards

C: JaVale McGee
PF: Antawn Jamison
SF: Caron Butler
SG: DeShawn Stevenson
PG: Mike James

Boston Celtics

C: Kendrick Perkins
PF: Kevin Garnett
SF: Paul Pierce
SG: Ray Allen
PG: Rajon Rondo

Well, this game should be intresting to say the least. The game, as I said, is being played in D.C. in front of of the Wizards fans, so I can't see them down 20 at half and them being booed off the floor at halftime. But as well as the Celtics have been playing, I wouldn't count that option out complelty. I see this game being tight and acctually coming down to the last few minutes. I think the Wizards are better then everyone gives them credit for. They are bad, 4-15 is just plain bad, but that doesn't mean that wont compete. I see the Celtics winning 103-94.
