Elton and the Sixers

The Sixers grew last year into a playoff team by running and with agressive D.

Elton is a post up player who slows this process down

While a nice player, was he the right one for the Sixers? .

Temple Football

But for a few plays we might have actually seen Temple in a bowl game. Giving away games to Navy and Buffalo , shows that Golden needs now to teach them to think like winners.

The talent is there.

Blessing in Baltimore

The benching of McNabb last week in Baltimore ,might actually prove to be a blessing for the Birds.

What it showed ( I was there) is that Kolb does not have an NFL arm and that the birds need to go back to the drawing board for their QB of the future.

Arm strength when compaired to that of Falco , of the Ravens , was extremely weak

That coupled with the Bird receivers not understanding that they need to "come back" at times to the ball lead to a really ugly game in many ways

How did the Explorers pull off getting a top  35 recruit , who is the 4th ranked center in the country?

Congrats to  John Giannini who finally has the Explorers on the road back to hoops respectability!

If Only he Could Coach

Jay Wright is fast becoming the Mac Brown of college hoops. This year he posted a top three recruiting class, including the two inside players Nova has needed the last few years.

Sadly, Wright might be the poorest coach at making in game  adjustments in the Big 6 ( We will include Drexel). If Martelli or Dunphy had the same talent  guareenteed  final team.

The Phils did it again with mirrors and help from the Mets. With only two viable pitchers, amazing turn around of the old axiom" pitching wins pennants".

Howard got hot once again down the stretch and actually has people talking MVP about a player with 200 K's  and a B.A. under .260?

Amazing  job  by Charlie, with no stud catcher,  right fielder. His left fielder and second baseman had significant drops after the all star game.

Well the secret is in the bulpen. perhaps one of the best three in all baeball. Lidge is lights out once again, and the set up men hold leads when handed the ball.

At least one win post season with Hamels .

Phillies/ Billy Bean

Coming down the stretch , the Phils lack of aggessiveness is securing a starting pitcher is showing.

They picked up Blanton, who has a "tiried " arm which anyone can see while watches him top out at 92 MPH. Never give away anything tto Billy Bean. While the Cubs faired slightrly better picking up Hardin, once again he is hurt.

Bean continues to stock pile prospects while teams like the Phils continue to get duped

Boxing in Olympics

Having watched and played sports for several decades, I have never seen such  shame as the way boxing is being scored in the Olympics. the sport, already in trouble  and losing fans to MMA , needs to get it's act together quickly or it will go the way  of professional wrestling. They know who the winners are going be also before the bouts start.
