Best Keyboardists In Music - The Winner

As always, welcome to the Bakery!  The title of "Greatest Keyboardist Ever - As Chosen By The Members Of The CBS Sportsline Community" has been decided!   A big thank you to everyone who participated!  To see the finals blog, click here:

Without further ado, the title of "Greatest Keyboardist Ever - As Chosen By The Members Of The CBS Sportsline Community" goes to:

Keith Emerson

Here are the detailed results.  As always, seeding is in parenthesis, votes received are in brackets, and the winner is in bold.

(1) Rick Wakeman [8] vs. (3) Keith Emerson [11]

Just a note: On the finals bracket, I said that voting closed on Saturday morning.  However, I will not be here tomorrow morning, and actually I do not know the next time I will be here in the morning - probably not till next weekend!  Therefore, I decided to close voting today.  Sorry for any inconvenience.

Any ideas for a new blog after this are still appreciated, however, a new vote off would probably not start until early September.  I enjoyed running this vote - off (my first one ever!)  It has been interesting tallying everyone's votes and reading your comments.  Thanks again to everyone who has taken the time to participate!

As always, happy posting!

Best Keyboardists In Music - The Finals

Welcome to The Bakery!  For those of you who participated in previous rounds, welcome back!  To anyone here for the first time, we are deciding the title of "Greatest Keyboardist Ever - As Chosen By The Members Of The CBS Sportsline Community."  A big thank you to everyone who participated in previous rounds!  To see the semifinal blog, click here:

Here are the semifinal results.  Once again, winners are in bold, seeding is in parenthesis, and votes received are in brackets:

(1) Rick Wakeman [11] vs. (20) Billy Joel [8] - Well, the Piano Man was finally eliminated by the virtuoso.  I can't say I'm surprised as Wakeman is an outstanding keyboardist.  Quite a memorable run by Joel though!

(3) Keith Emerson [11] vs. (2) Stevie Wonder [8] - This one surprised me more but I guess the virtuoso beat out the songwriter in the end here too...

Just an interesting side note: Most voters in the semifinals either voted for the two virtuosos (Wakeman & Emerson) or the two singer/songwriters (Wonder and Joel).

Anyways, here is the final matchup:

(1) Rick Wakeman vs. (3) Keith Emerson - The two virtuosos (sorry I love that word!) go head to head in a face off!

In this round, if there is a tie at the end of the voting period, the deadline will be extended to allow more votes to come in and break the tie.  Voting for the finals will stay open slightly longer than usual - it will close on Saturday, August 9, at 11 AM EST. (deadline revised 8/4/08)

I guess the only other question is: "What's next?"  Well I will not be online much in August so any new vote - off probably will not start right away.  However, I am still open to any suggestions/ideas!

I have enjoyed running this vote - off (my first one ever!)  It has been interesting tallying everyone's votes and reading your comments.  Thanks again to everyone who has taken the time to participate!

Happy Posting and enjoy the finals!

Best Keyboardists In Music - The Semifinals

Welcome to The Bakery!  For those of you who participated in previous rounds, welcome back!  To those of you here for the first time, we are deciding the title of "Greatest Keyboardist Ever - As Chosen By The Members Of The CBS Sportsline Community."  A big thank you to everyone who participated in previous rounds!  To see the quarterfinal blog, click here:

Here are the Round 3 (quarterfinal) results.  Billy Joel pulled off his third upset in a row!

(1) Rick Wakeman [15] vs. (9) Jerry Lee Lewis [3]

(5) Elton John [6] vs. (20) Billy Joel [12]

(6) Herbie Hancock [7] vs. (3) Keith Emerson [11]

(10) Steve Winwood [7] vs. (2) Stevie Wonder [11]

Here are the semi - final matchups:

(1) Rick Wakeman vs. (20) Billy Joel

(3) Keith Emerson vs. (2) Stevie Wonder

Note: This tournament is set up "March Madness Style" as opposed to, say, "Stanley Cup Playoff Style."  This means that the above matchups should be envisioned as if in a bracket and the best seed remaining does not necessarily play the worst seed remaining.

Once again, I will only vote if there is a tie.  Voting for the Semifinals will close on Monday, July 28, at 11 AM EST.

Happy Posting!
