FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR OWES THE IRS $6 MILLION!!!!!!January 14, 2009 4:52 pm
According to various report, Floyd "Money" Mayweather is in trouble financially. I first heard about this story around September-ish during the pre-fight hype for Manny Pacquiao/Oscar De La Hoya. A friend of mine told me that he overheard DLH mention that Mayweather needed money. At the time, I told my buddy that this was probably nothing but rubbish. After all, Floyd just made somewhere in the neighborhood of $50 million from his DLH and Hatton fights, not to mention his acting gig with the WWE. But now, there are several reports on the web stating that the IRS recently placed liens against Mayweather for $6.1 million!! The reports also state that penalties and interest alone would cost $500K a year unless he pays it off quickly!! SON OF A MOTHERLESS GOAT!!! How does that happen in about a year or so? The $50 million he made was in '07! Even Mike Tyson took 6 or 7 years to go broke. And from all indications, "Iron" Mike still has a little bit left. I always figured that Floyd's "retirement" wouldn't be permanent and that he'd come back eventually for a couple huge fights but this development almost guarantees a return to the ring for him. Now take this into consideration: with the knowledge that he needs to fight and have some income, Golden Boy, Top Rank or whatever promotions company he'll have to negotiate with (Golden Boy for a Hatton fight or Top Rank for a Pacquiao fight) will know he's desperate for money and give him the short end of the money stick. If this report never comes out, it would have taken a huge cut of the purse - maybe even 60% or more - to entice Floyd out of retirment. But seeing that he's desperate for money he'll have to take what GB or TR offer, which will not come close to what he could have made, and like it!! I don't know Floyd from the next guy. But I've heard a bunch of mixed reviews about him. Some people say he's the nicest person, while others say he's as big a jackass as the "Money" Mayweather persona he portrayed in the HBO specials prior to his fight with DLH. One thing is certain. When Floyd is constantly surrounded by an entourage of 10-12 people and he pays for everything that those guys do, buy up luxury cars (for himself and his entourage), "makes it rain" everytime he goes out anywhere and is blowing thousand of dollars in the sports book daily, it's not as surprising to hear that Floyd has some financial troubles. Here's a link to the most recent report about this story: http://floyd-mayweather-news.newsli Category: Boxing Mayweather vs. Hatton IIDecember 17, 2008 10:18 am
Did you all see the story about Hatton being apporached by Mayweathers people about a rematch?? I don't want to see this fight...it's not worth it...the only reason that this would go down as a good fight would be if Ricky Hatton knocked Floyd out like he got knocked out...I would love to Pacquiao vs. Mayweather, I'd even pay to see it...but Hatton vs. Mayweather II would be a joke... Pacquiao wins De La Hoya, via eight-round knockoutDecember 9, 2008 3:07 am
The end for Oscar De La Hoya on this night came as he sat in the corner after the eight round, his left eye swollen shut and his face bruised by Manny Pacquiao seemed able to land almost at will. The decision to call it a night was easy. The decision to call it a career may be a lot tougher. "My heart still wants to fight, that's for sure," De La Hoya said. "But when your physical doesn't respond, what can you do? I have to be smart and make sure I think about my future plans." Pacquiao gave De La Hoya a lot to think about by beating and battering him around the ring for eight rounds Saturday night before De La Hoya declined to answer the bell for the ninth round. The domination was shocking enough, but the fact that it came at the hands of a fighter who just nine months earlier had been fighting 129 pounds had to be even more troubling for De La Hoya and his legions of fans. Williams stops Phillips in Ontario, Calif.. 11/29December 4, 2008 12:19 pm
Reigning WBO Welterweight Champion Williams moved up to 154-pound division on Saturday night, stopping former IBF Light Middleweight Champion Verno Phillips after eight bruising rounds at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California. Williams (36-1, 27 KOs) of Augusta, Georgia added the interim WBO Light Middleweight title to his collection of belts with the win, but it was no easy task. Phillips (42-11-1,21 KOs) of Denver, Colorado never gave up and kept swinging away all fight. After a close first round, Williams, 153.5 pounds, took control of the fight and never let it go. Phillips 154 pounds, stood in tough, but was getting hurt to the body all night. Williams, who was bleeding from a cut above his right eye since the first, continually pressed Phillips to the ropes and unleashed vicious combinations. At the end of the eight round, referee Jon Schorle sought the advice of the ringside physician who suggested the bout be stopped. Phillips, who gave up his IBF title to make the fight with Williams, had not been knocked out since his fifth pro bout in1988. Category: Boxing Tags: Williams
Arreola KOs Walker in the third 11/29December 4, 2008 11:35 am
Fighting in front of his hometown crowd in Ontario, California, WBC #2/IBF #4 ranked Chris Arreola (26-0,23KOs) may have officially became America's favorite heavyweight Saturday night. Things did not start off well for the fighting pride of Riverside, California. WBO #4/IBF #13 ranked Travis Walker (28-2-1,22KOs) of Tallahassee, Florida came out of his corner like a raging bull to open the bout. Arreola, 254, decided to trade with him right off the bat, but was getting caught by some clean shots from the 6'4 1/2'' Walker. Things looked a bit bleak for the crowd favorite as the round came to a close. What followed will be sure-fire candidate for round of the year. Early in the second, Walker, 231, dropped Arreola to a knee with an overhand right during an exchange of power shots. Undeterred, Arreola rose to his feet and went back after Walker. The fight turned as Arreola caught Walker with a clubbing right, dropping him hard to the canvas. Walker bravely made it to his feet, but was knocked down again by a flurry of hard shots against the ropes. Somehow Walker manged to make it to his feet and made it out of the round on shaky ground. The one minute rest period between rounds would not be enough for Walker to recover from the second. Arreola stunned him with the first shot he threw, a straight right, and finished Walker with a clean left hook. Referee Jack Reiss not need to count, stopping the contest at 13 seconds of the third. Needless to say, the Riverside contingent went wild. Category: Boxing Tags: Chris Arreola
