Online Poker vs Live Action

September 24, 2008 10:08 pm

I have done my share of both, I personally prefer the Live Action. I enjoy seeing a smile fade as a player (whom usually never belonged in the hand to start) watches his hopes of sucking out and his chips disappear. I enjoy gaining reads, as most players who do not work on there game have many tells, which obviously cannot be seen thru a computer.

Online play is obviously more flexible in the type of games the dollar values and the variety of games available to your everyday player. The main reason I do not like online play is the fact that the RMG (due to the ungodly amount of hands dealt per minute) deal bad beat after bad beat, suckouts left and right and making the worst players look like Phil Ivey.

Bodog in my opinion is the most notorious for Bad Beats. Full Tilt in my opinion is on the other end of the spectrum, as I have received the fewest or seen the fewest here. By no means am I endorsing any website, I just am giving my experiences.

Everyone has bad beat stories, but my most recent and arguably one of my most devastating came earlier this week in a 50k Guarantee. We where roughly 7 hours in to a tournament that started with a little over 800 players with 200.00-25.00 Buy In. 40 Players where to payout with 1st place taking a little over 23k. I was third in chips with roughly 60 player remaining. I was dealt QsQc in 5th position. Blinds at this point where at 5000/10000 with a 200 ante. I raised 4x's the BB to 40k. 6,7,8, fold, 9 re-raises All-in button, sb-4 all fold. This was an additional 120k as player 9 was the 2nd chip leader at the table and in 7th place in the tourney. I now have 40k invested in a pot that contains, a little over 180k, player 9 has been a very aggressive player raising and re-raising with almost any two cards. When I called his all-in it was just as I suspected he went all in on a steal attempt, holding a beautiful 7h-4s..(or so I thought was beautiful). Flop comes As-4h-5c. I am still sitting pretty Q's over 4's with two cards to come, turn rolls around, 8s, anyone wanna guess the river? Thats right 6c. I was so livid, I know they say all you can do is get your money in with the best cards, but who catches runner runner runner? Needless to say I was short stacked from that point on and basically was blinded away. I finished 3 spots from cashing.

Had this been the first BAD BEAT I had witnessed in this Specific tournament I may not have been so upset, but it was literally the 8th or 9th suckout many came on one outters I had witnessed on Bodog.

Needless to say I immediately removed Bodog from my computer after cashing out all my money.

Sorry I went on a rant, please share your opinions on why you prefer one to the other.

Thanks, and remember 2 7 offsuit is the strongest hand in poker ;)

World Series of Poker

June 11, 2008 3:29 pm

Now that the World Series of Poker is in full swing, its time to talk about the best poker players out there.

Who are your favorite players?

Are there some guys (or girls) you try to play like when you are at the casino or out with your buddies?

I know most people don't like Phil Hellmuth, but I do. He's a great player and sometimes I can be hot-headed just like he is. But that's really not good for my game. As for the women, I really like watching Jennifer Harmon play, she's got mad skills.
