Yowzers

For being the BYU Cougars Football Fanatics group, 25 days and 3 games seems like a long time to go between posts.

BYU will get back to the basics this weekend on offense and move the ball with extreme efficiency, no matter what blitz packages the Lobos bring.  They may stop BYU on a couple of plays but I don't think they'll be able to stop drives.  The defense just needs to bottle up the ground game and they will be fine.  They are the only top 25 team to record two shutouts, in fact, only 4 other ranked teams have posted a single shutout (two against Sun Belt teams, one against La Tech, and one against an FCS team-though Auburn's defense has posted two shutouts, in one game the only points they gave up were on a safety given up by the offense on a penalty that occurred in the end zone).  Special teams has been pretty solid all year until the Utah State game.  I think they will rebound just fine and we might see a kick return go for big yardage finally.  Max Hall for over 300, 3+ TDs, Unga for 75, 2 TDs, defense holds UNM to between 200-250 total yards, mostly on the ground and mostly in the second half, and 1 TD, maybe 2.  BYU by 27 points.

Utah by 21.  They are so devastated that we beat Wyoming by more than they did that they proceed to lose at home next week to CSU.

Quest for Perfection

What amazing game. When I watched the game I looked intently for mistakes by the cougars. I had a hard time finding any at all. The only one I could see was the fumble in the first quarter. Our defence was amazing only letting the defence rush for 9 yards and forcing 4 turnovers. The only words to describe this game was perfect. This truly was a huge step to the Quest for Perfection.

ESPN = KSL = Whiners

I had to work Saturday and was relagated to listening to the game instead of watching it.  I chose to listen on KSL via the internet which proved to be a frustrating decision.  Don't get me wrong, a BYU game, especially a win, is always the highlight of my week.  However, for the amount of whining KSL did about the officiating you would have thought the officials were in UW Jerseys.

Of course when I did get to a TV to see a rare BYU highlight (another issue I have with ESPN, why no BYU highlights??), ESPN decides to basically sum up the game in only two plays - the Locker celebration penalty and the FG Block.  As you all know, ESPN chose to whine about the celebration call incessantly.  So having not seen the game, it seems from ESPN's perspective that the officials were clearly in BYU's corner.

My guess is that the game must have been somewhere in between KSL and ESPN, where the officials probably did a fair job, but had a number of botched calls.  The majority of the bad calls going in UW's favor, but nothing aggregious and not enough to really say it was overly biased.  Either KSL and ESPN weren't watching the same game or they were competing in their own sort of biased game of whining.  Can anyone who saw the game fill me in?
