Kenner League

Hello Hoya fans,

Just a quick plug for the Kenner league, which began play yesterday at McDonough Gym in DC. All games are free and open to the public. Watch the team play organized basketball without active coaching from the Georgetown staff. Schedule and Hoya team assignments are available on the web. This is a unique opportunity to watch high quality college basketball over the doldrums of summer, and get a feel for how to team will look next year.

Bye-Bye Summers

Well the Georgetown program has just had a big loss. DeJuan Summers just declared for the draft. This is gona be a huge spot to fill, but maybe we can do it. The Hoyas have it in them

Been Awhile

Sometimes it is hard to watch. I'm trying to stay positive, and thinking we can build for the future. In that vein, there is now a Facebook petition trying to get Monroe and Summers to return. Monroe has already said he would be coming back next year, but you can never be too sure. Log on and sign up to show your support for having a strong squad next year.

Three Game Stretch

It's been a rough month, but we came through it ok. The wins vs. UConn and Syracuse were huge. We need to keep up the intensity and pad our Big East conference record. West Virginia, Seton Hall and Cincinnati are all very winnable games. Bob Huggins' team is led by Alex Ruoff and De'Sean Butler, both of whom are around 6'6 and 220 pounds. We match up well in this situation, being able to use DaJuan Summers and Austin Freeman on these combo players. But we can't let our guard down. Bob Huggins is a smart coach, and even with a depleted team, he can be dangerous. Seton Hall is having an off year, and hasn't won yet in the Big East. Cincinnati is continuing to have problems, and is basically led only by Deonta Vaughan. Vaughan can be guarded by Chris Wright or Jason Clark, but he is the only good option for Cinci. None of these teams have good answers for Monroe. We need to use this time to keep up the intensity and work out Jessie Sapp's problems. We need to be on top of our game for playing Marquette in Wisconsin.

Update Before Notre Dame

Let's all put that loss to Pittsburgh behind us. No point dwelling on the past. With North Carolina's loss to Boston College, Pitt is the number one team in the country. Basically, it will end up as a quality loss for us.

Firstly, let's congratulate Hollis Thompson on beginning his studies at Georgetown early. According to Liz Clarke of the Washington Post, Thompson is now on campus and beginning his studies this semester. His early matriculation should mean that he can sit in on practice and understand the offense better when his eligibility begins in the fall. The 6-6 forward will be integral next season, and could help spell time for DaJuan Summers, Austin Freeman, or Jason Clark.

On to Notre Dame. Luke Harangody is a beast, but the rest of the team is suspect. Harangody will clearly be the focus of Summers and Greg Monroe, but the key to this game will be guard play. Can Chris Wright and Jessie Sapp step up at both ends of the floor. To win, Wright will need to bounce back from a bad game and defend well on Kyle McAlarney. Sapp will also need to defend well on Tory Jackson, and it wouldn't hurt if he got out of his shooting slump. Wright should go back to attacking the basket. Drawing fouls on guys like Harangody is effective, and he didn't do it as much against DeJuan Blair. Wright is fearless, and he has the capacity to take over this game.

This will be an important one though. If we can win this one, it sets a good stage for upcoming games vs Syracuse and Providence, both of which could be major momentum boosters going in against Duke. Let's pull it together and show what we're made of tonight.
