Rampage jackson arrested on felony charges!

Jackson has not been charged with a DUI at this time. Reports yesterday were that law enforcement did not initially have a reason to suspect drugs or alcohol were involved. However, TMZ.com reported that he was deemed "medically unfit" for jail and was apparently taken to an area hospital.

"Medically unfit" could mean a lot of things, not necessarily that he was under the influence of something. The man is an elite-level professional fighter who just went five rounds with Forrest Griffin a week and a half ago. He's probably got some injuries, so maybe that's all it was.

Depending on what the police in Orange County consider "medically unfit," it could be a lot of things. If he were under the influence of alcohol (to the point where it would cause a meltdown of this magnitude), I'm thinking the cops would have noticed that at the scene. That level of alcohol intoxication is difficult to disguise. Without knowing for sure, that makes me think alcohol was not a factor, or was not a major enough factor to be noticed by police. Drugs -- prescription or otherwise -- are a totally different story, but I'd hate to speculate on something like that without more information.

I mean that is the most important thing that no one was hurt in any of the accidents.  I would love to know why he really thought that fleeing the scenes was a good idea.  Does anyone know if he was charged with a DUI too?

This is just a bizarre turn of events. Hopefully as more details emerge, we'll learn what could possibly have been going through his mind (obviously this is all "alleged" until he gets his day in court, but it's pretty hard to dispute the photo evidence).

With what little information we have right now, I have several thoughts:

  • Thank god nobody was hurt. According to reports, Jackson is accused of having clipped at least three cars, blew out a tire, traveled some distance on the RIM, crossed the median, drove into oncoming traffic, caused pedestrians to escape from harm's way, and all of that while fleeing from law enforcement. Also, according to reports, nobody is said to have been injured. Obviously, this could have turned out much, much worse than it did. Jackson (allegedly) and the UFC are fortunate that this ended without a tragedy.
  • That truck. Seriously. How do you flee the scene of an accident -- let alone multiple accidents -- in a jacked-up, pimped out truck with a custom paint job of your name and likeness on it? Did Rampage forget that he was driving a giant ID badge around California? I have to think that there is more to the story of why he fled in THAT truck, and why he thought that was a winning strategy. Fleeing the police is a dumb idea in virtually all situations, but doing it in a vehicle that unique is almost too stupid to be true. There's gotta be a few missing details, right? He can't be that dumb, can he?
  • He's not going anywhere... except maybe jail. We'll see how the legal situation shakes out, but don't think for a second that Rampage is losing his UFC job over this. The UFC kept Jon Koppenhaver on the roster despite not really needing him to draw viewers, after his own legal misdeeds. There's no way the UFC will cut a big-name fighter of Quinton Jackson's caliber over this incident. It's more likely that they'll let the legal process play itself out, and bring back a new-and-improved Rampage once he's paid his debt to society (if it comes to that). As weird as this situation is, it will blow over eventually. There's no need for the UFC to send Quinton Jackson packing (and essentially serve him up to Affliction or EliteXC without so much as a bidding war), despite his apparent lack of sound judgment while in traffic.
