Damn this win against the Goophs sure feels good!  Pritchard had a great game.  I knew he had it in him.  I've watched the replay of the game both times and am still smiling.  Was worried with Creek, Watford and Jones injured on how things would pan out.  I like Hulls handling  the ball over Jones.  Hulls is more aware and is more patient.

Iowa is up next.  Hope they can even the score for the embarrassment at Iowa.

Go Hoosiers!

True all of dat, dad...

I said after the Michigan win, that this team looked a smite different than the "losing streak" squad...then they hit Wiscy and Iowa, which were setbacks...then came the next 3 of Illini, Sparty, and Gopher pack...and you know the rest of the story.

I honestly believe these kids have some confidence that has lacked an IU squad for a while.

I am excited for them...let's see what happens against Iowa, the problem is...Iowa has seemed to have gained the same type of momentum since their win over IU...so this game should be a fun one...can't wait...

I dunno, Pieno...I like to follow the local kids and the local squads, but I don't know squat about teams above the 40th parallel (Indy for all you non-geographical folks).

So I think I will stick with my Hoosiers and college (some pro) sports...

but keep fighting the good fight, I'm sure there are plenty of folks interested in HS roundball on CBS

What happened? Our Hoosiers dominated essentially the whole game except a two-minute stretch with 5 minutes to go in the second half.  that 10-0 run by iowa killed the hoosiers and Coach Crean did nothing.  No time outs.  No defense changes.  No substitutions.  Sheehey was getting worked by Mesabe and Daniel Moore couldn't stop Cartwright and the lead disappeared.  Why didn't he put Elston in?  His big body may have helped against Mesabe especially on those inbounds plays.  Or even Capo (but why did that mouth breather take 2 jumpers?).  Atleast tie the kid up and prevent those easy buckets or cheap fouls.  They weren't doing anything on offense either becuase they couldn't get the ball inside the 3-pt line with out some help in the middle which was planted on the bench.  It's gonna be tough for this team to win too many more without Watford but they did it against Minny.  I thought they could do it again today.  Oh well.  I picked 12-14 wins before the season started so I guess I can't be too disappointed.  Go IU! Fight! Fight! Fight!

PS: I don't want to compain about the refs again but it looked like we got homered at HOME.  I counted 3 phantom fouls in the first half alone.  and what about that offensive foul against Elston in the second half?  he got undercut AFTER he released the ball.  That lost bucket killed the IU mojo and is actually the difference in the game IMO because that's when he went to the bench.  granted the better team usually gets the breaks but the game was in Bloomington and i think this is one of the few big11 games where IU WAS the better team.

I hate mentioning the officiating but it was awful.  From the offensive foul you mention on Elston.  Elston released the ball before running into the defender who would have been under the no charge arc if it would have been in the NBA.  Bucket should have counted either way.  What about the Elston double dribble call in the first half.  He backed-down his man on the baseline and clearly maintained his dribble.  I don't have any idea what he saw.  Elston didn't dribble, stop, then dribble again, and he didn't dribble with both hands simultaneously.  The officials also missed some travel violations on Iowa.  I seen one play where they got away with moving their pivot foot twice.

Anyway, there were several mistakes Indiana made that you could point to, but I am tired of the rationallity.  I am sick of this crappy officiating.  If we have to put up with the "home-cooking officiating on the road, we should get the same "home-cooking" advantage when we are at home.

I would have like the win, but we kept it close and lost by one without Watford.  The big difference between this game and the Minnesota game was Iowa's players were able to match our energy and we could not stop Basabe inside and we were able to limit Minnesota's bigs.  He had a huge game and was active on both ends.  We got hammered on the boards.  Maybe Elson would have helped us had he played more minutes but he was only able to secure 1 rebound during his time on the court tonight. Sheehey and Oladipo played a lot at the 4 tonight and played with more energy on both ends.

I just hope everbody keeps their heads up, fighting the good fight improving for next season and maybe even steal one from somebody on the road this season.

I honestly believe that no team out there gets rattled when IU gets a lead...I mean even up to 20 points (didn't happen against Iowa, just saying)...because the opposition knows that IU can lose composure quickly and for a long stretches of time... very frustrating to watch the last 5 minutes...again.

The officiating wasn't perfect (it never is), but when you get destroyed on the boards as IU did, that gives the opponent more shots and more possessions...which equals more trips to the line...IU got outhustled last night, plain and simple...and when they got a 10-point lead they thought it was game over...Iowa had other plans.

On to Purdue...this one could get ugly quickly...I'm kinda glad my youngest sons have games that night...so it's gonna be DVR for the game...and watching later with the ability to fast forward...or delete.

A couple of items:

Actually, there was a time out called...maybe a little late, but it was called when the lead was down to 2.  I've questioned substituation patterns throughout the season, but there are some limits now with the injuries.

IU got outhustled last night, plain and simple...

At least IU hustled.  Maybe you can say Iowa outhustled IU, but that seems to unfairly say IU didn't hustle.  I agree that IU seemed to try to take the air out of the ball and run shot clock at about the 8:00 mark.  That was the real problem.  This team has to stay aggressive on the offensive end.

To me the real question is, what happened on the last possession???  I've read somespeculation that VJIII didn't follow the play that was drawn up and decided the last shot was going to be his, when prehaps that wasn't what was drawn up....thus the 2nd time out call.

Not sure what happened other than Jones wasn't doing what he was supposed to do.  That is the first time I have seen Crean really chew on one of these guys.

Jones walked the ball up the court when most guards will dribble as fast as they can to get across the halfcourt line and immediately call a timeout.  So he ran off valuable time on the clock. On the last play, I have no idea who was supposed to take the shot.  If it is going to be a jumper Hulls would be our top option, but who knows what was drawn up.

IU has the best fan base in the country, without a doubt. Here is a little tidbit from an article by Seth Davis on si.com:
"Speaking of Indiana, I have to say I have never seen a fan base so passionately support a struggling team. The Hoosiers still fill Assembly Hall for every home game, and the place is always rocking. (By contrast, Ohio State couldn't even fill up the Schottenstein Center for its big game at home against Purdue.) The Hoosiers lose a lot of games, but they play their tails off and the fans know it. Their loyalty has been rewarded recently as IU scored home wins over Illinois and Minnesota in the last two weeks. The fans know things will get better in time, but they're not waiting until it happens to show up. Bravo."

Food for thought...

Purdue is a 13 point Vegas favorite...Purdue has a 12 point lead with less than 20 seconds to go in the game...Purdue can work the clock to end the game, BUT...Jordan Hulls fouls with 14 seconds left???  WHY????

Why would Jordy foul with 14 seconds when PU is just working the clock to end the game???

Don't get me wrong, I didn't bet a dime on this game, as I never bet IU...but I do follow the Vegas spreads with college basketball...this intrigues me...ALOT.

I mean...doesn't this at least concern anybody?...the spread....came down to the wire...to the last 14 seconds...

...Purdue a heavy favorite...and it came down to the wire...

...needing IU to foul when the game was out of reach...

....isn't that a little suspect...???

...maybe I have been reading too many Tom Clany novels...

...yeah, that's it...

...I'm sure it's just my imagination...

The camera showed his face after the foul was called and Hulls looked at someone and said "I didn't foul him". So obviously he really wasnt trying to foul, and didn't believe he commited a foul.
