You can tell how classy a fan is when they admit that they don't want a fellow contendor to be down a star player.  Alot of people would rather take the easy route to the NC.  I applaude the posters of other teams on this board.  I am thrilled AO is back, but it would not suprise me if coach keeps him out of the first round all together and puts him as a reserve for the second round game.

I took BMW119's advice and checked out an article by Brian Demulc that provided a game-by-game analysis of the NCAA Tournament's East Region.  I like what Brian had to say:

Despite a scare in the second round from Texas, not the NCAA Committee on Infractions, that will come after the tournament, (dig at Calipari’s lack of institutional control: check) I like Kentucky to advance to face Temple, who will get by Wisconsin.  I really want to pick Temple to beat Kentucky, but smart money and a combination of Rule #1 and Rule #2 says to stick with the Wildcats.  In the bottom half of the bracket I like New Mexico to take care of Marquette and despite some early game struggles West Virginia’s talent will handle Mizzou’s pressure.  West Virginia then beats New Mexico to set up an Elite 8 matchup with Kentucky.  This is where Kentucky gets derailed.  The Mountaineers experience overall and more specifically their experience playing in the Carrier Dome will be the difference as Kentucky’s youth gets served.  West Virginia continues their impressive stretch of play and earns a spot in the Final Four.

Billybong I like your thoughts.   Whats your thoughts on how many Big East teams will be in the sweet 16?  Will there be any conference with more than The BEAST.   If so how many and whom?

Thanks again.

bbwvfan,

I'm sorry if you don't think my assessment is very flattering.  Frankly, I think it exudes respect for what the Mountaineers have been able to accomplish without a true ballhandler or traditional post presence.  I try to be pretty unbiased in my breakdowns... if there's any particular claim I made that strikes you as inaccurate or unfair, I'd welcome your take.

Here's where I'll sound like a homer, even though I endeavor diligently not to be one: WVU beat us in Morgantown, one of the toughest venues in the country to play (that's a compliment), when our leading scorer was out with serious health issues.  If you guys had been without Da'Sean Butler and played us in DC, I think you would be willing to agree that the outcome would've been slightly different.  (Still no excuse for our getting torched... you guys owned us a couple weeks back.)   The BET title game was another story.  Word for word my facebook status Saturday night: <h3 class="UIIntentionalStory_Message" style="font-size: 13px; color: #333333; font-weight: normal; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">Congratulations to the Mountaineers on their first Big East Championship. It was a tough, hard-fought game right down to the end. (4 games in 4 days with literally the most shallow bench in the country, and only 2-point loss in the waning seconds to a top squad like WVU? Yeah, I'll take that. Bring on the Dance :-)

Most of my fellow Hoya fans were moaning about the officiating (it was fair) or complaining about the WVU fans (they were passionate), but that's just dumb.  We played hard... but we were fatigued as hell.  It showed.  All of our 3-point shots were short.  Usually, our missed 3-pointers are wide or long.  Have TOO MUCH on them, but the other night, every single one hit the front end of the rim.  Our offense came in spurts.  Butler was clutch.

Trying to be as objective as I can, if you give me WVU v. Georgetown when both teams are well-rested, on a neutral court, I'd put money on the Hoyas 7 times out of 10.  But I can't deny the fact that you guys beat us twice this season.  And that last contest was a great battle.

On Huggins... do you disagree?  I realize that he's your coach, so you're supposed to defend him, but are you sincerely disagreeing, or are you just indignant that I took a shot at him?  Boeheim is the biggest whiner in the league.  Calhoun is the smarmiest.  And JTIII has to be held accountable for his team's failure to show up against inferior opponents like South Florida and Rutgers.  The knock on Huggins (who is a heckuva coach and whom I almost NEVER bet against, and who teaches his guys to play the most tenacious, visceral defense around) is that he's a sleaze.  He verbally abuses the refs (I've witnessed it), he's unsportsmanlike to opposing players, and he treats pre/post-game interviewers with disdain.  He's rude and harrassing, and I wish the officials would do a better job controlling him.  If his team got docked a point every time he said something was "f***ing******** bull***" during a game, I don't care how many shots Butler and Ebanks poured in, you guys would finish with negative forty seven points.

That said, I wish he would've stayed at Kansas State, because he's a heckuva coach.

I agree totally  Laughing

Howlongsitbeen,

I remember reading your analysis of WVU a month ago... not very flattering.  Where did you list them, as the 6th or 8th best team in the BE?  I cannot remember.

Now Bobby Huggins is considered an a-whole?

What gives?

You are correct about WVU... it has a weakness at PG.  It also is an average shooting team.  Its defense is tenacious... and, will likely keep them in every single game they play.  Very few teams have done any better than WVU at stopping potent offensive attacks like your Georgetown (twice), Nova and ND.  There is a reason each of these schools had such poor FG%.
