I wouldn't be surprised if we nabbed this Cooper kid in the 1st round, the kids got all the entangibles, surprisingly long arms for a guard, very nimble, 35 on the press - also very strong, this kid could solidify our o-line for the next 10+ years, with us going to a zone blocking scheme this kid would be perfect, we could move Beachum to Tackle, and gilbert can be our backup, not very mobile.

There is another report that the Steelers have already interview this kid...  What would be real nice..  is to slip back a little - and still pick this kid (or someone else) and pick up more picks....

Draft insider Tony Pauline is hearing that the Steelers are "drooling" over BYU pass rusher Ezekiel Ansah.

Pauline adds that the team would play Ansah as a rush linebacker. We always take these reports with a grain of salt, because they could leak for a variety of reasons, but the Steelers do need pass rushing help due to the decline of James Harrison. Source: [Tony Pauline on Twitter ]

I agree 100% on Warmack, unless he's hurt it doesn't make a difference where you bench, a bench press is the same no matter how you look at it.

There was another report that a bunch of GMs have Cooper ahead of Warmack. Lots of stuff being said and not all of it true but it's interesting.

I want absolutely nothing to do with oline in the first round( Warmack obviously won't fall and he would be the only exception) . Main reason having too many needs on the defensive side, to go along with we've already used multiple top picks on the line. Add to the fact that we will surely continue with the injuries on the oline anyways no matter who we draft and that Ben is the type of qb who makes his line " look" worse than it is because of his style ....I want no part of it. Draft defense....more defense...and some more.

BB,

Last year our very own Mike Adams lifted the bar 19 times, not very impressive for a 327 pound man but as we all know Adams was pancaking NFL D-linemen for fun and looks pretty strong to me.

Moral of the story is the Bench press is a poor measuring stick of someones strength for many reasons and It shouldn't be used to determine how strong a person is. Fair enough if the big uglys cant get it up 10 times I would agree and say thats a poor number but as long as they are around 20 I'm not too worried.

Big Bens,

I know that...  In fact the combine is a glorified track meet..  re Ricky Wagner - go put his senior bowl tape on or any Wisconsin game he played this year and you'll see why I made light of him...  He stinks...
Watch the Bench does show you somewhat is punching power..  Something All offensive linemen need... Wagner's issues are many - First and foremost is he is a waste bender and that does not move well... hence gets beat not only on the edge and gets caught leaning - but he also will get bull rushed in the NFL...  No thank you.  Did I get them from his 20 reps on the bench?  no - from watching...

re Adams - the tape showed he can play - he's feet are quic enought to move a de or olb around the arch and out of harms way...

Yeah I'm with you on this. If Warmack falls and there is no top pass rusher on the board I'd take him, but appart from Warmack on the 0-line I would look to the defence in round 1. If Barret Jones is there in the second I would be all over him, like Warford too but don't know if he fits in the zone scheme?

Nice to hear someone say the Steelers like Ansah, hope its true because we need to get more pressure on the QB. I'm Praying that Jarvis Jones falls and if he doesn't I really hope Ansah is there.

On Cooper I think he has great feet and a good fit for the zone blocking scheme but hes a little over hyped and some way behind Warmack. Needs to get stronger for the run game IMO.

Couple of TE numbers from the Combine....

Nick Kasa TE Colorado - 22 reps

Vance McDonald TE Rice - 31 reps  - I want to see him in the gauntlet drill tomorrow and see if he can hold onto any balls...  He struggled doing just that at the senior bowl

BB,

If you think hes weak from watching him play thats a fair point and I agree with you on Wagner . I was just pointing out in general that a low Bench press number doesn't always mean a guy is weak as there are many factos that go into it.

Watch the Bench does show you somewhat is punching power..
The issue I have with this is when you do the Bench press you are lied flat on your back stationary and using only your upper body. In a game your on your feet with a guy comming at you and if you have poor lower body strength, technique, balance and co-ordination that punching power won't be the same. Thats why I dont personally hold much stock in the bench press as high reps don't always simulate game strength.

In fact the combine is a glorified track meet..
Exactly, but it's fun to watch. Particulary the 40 times.

Brian Winters - Kent State OG has some of the shortest arms and only did 9 reps, they say the shorter the arms the more you're supposed to be able to do. Stock down on that kid.

9 reps, could be a misprint or he took the wrong hormone pills? How about my main man, Terron Armstead, he measured out well.
