mock, i don't see how it's relevant, but my team is the Eagles. i didn't bring it up cause i didn't think that it mattered to this debate. i do make an arguement as far as a winning record because when i hear the term dynasty in terms of sports teams, the first thing i think of is domination...and one team more dominating than any other. now giving your 3 SB in 10 years theory, you're in a position where you can have 2 dynasties in the same 10 year span, which i have a problem with. 3 SB in a 5 year span is indeed a difficult task to acheive, which makes dynasty a much more of a worthy title. again, i have a hard time judging on a 10 year span when you put up 5-11, 7-9 records. please help me understand how this can make sense to you, because it doesn't to me...or others posting on here. how can you say i don't make an arguement when i bring stats and rationale to back up my basis. you say you "believe a 10 year career is a good measuring tool. you have to include this into your formulation." but you never say why. i think you're the one that's not making an arguement
LOL you didn't think it mattered that your here talking about the Giants as an Eagles fan? Well, I think it matters. I'm sure other readers here do too. But still I will respect your opinion, as I have said again. Why not just make it 3 straight years in a row only for a dynasty? Why 3 in 4 or 5 years? 10 years is a measuring tool for a players career. i didn't think I would have to explain the relevance to that and the 3 wins in 10 years dynasty discussion. The Giants have made the playoffs for 4 out of the 5 past years and won a Superbowl. You mean to tell me if they win 2 more Suberbowls over the next 7 years, they aren't a Dynasty? Your theory of 3 SB Wins in 4 or 5 years is unrealistic.
And now to talk about the Eagles for a minute. Now those guys must be sick of looking at all of there 2nd place trophies. Good solid team but they cannot win the big game. They are the new Bills. The Eagles beat the Giants hands down last year in the playoffs. I give respect where it is due. You let Dawkins go this year, very bad move. The over/under on McNabb & Westbrook combined games missed due to injury this year is 7. And Andy Reid is sweating the small stuff. You have bigger things to worry about other then the dominance of the Giants.
actually, i didn't think it mattered because i wasn't calling NY a dynasty or saying that the Eagles are one. what i was debating is the criteria that defines a dynasty. and just for the record, my "theory" of 3 SB in 4-5 years has been proven not once, but 3 times. 3 SB for the Patriots - '02, '04, '05. Dallas Cowboys in '93, '94, '96. Steelers '76, '77, '79, '80. as far as a players careers, they are part of the dynasty. they don't define it. i completely disagree that 2 superbowls in the next 7 years does not qualify them as a dynasty. what if the next 5 years they have a sub-par record, miss the playoffs 4 out of 5 seasons. the next two years following they catch fire and win the super bowl. those 2 super bowls could start a dynasty, but there's no way that you could count their win over the pats and call that a dynasty. ok, so you didn't thnk you would have to explain your thoughts, but now i'm askin you to. explain your theory
as far as dawkins goes, why do you think it was a bad move? emotional leader? i agree, i was really disappointed to see him go, but the Broncos offered him a deal he couldn't refuse. so, it was more him walking than the Eagles letting him go. i really don't see the point of vegas's line of over/under on injury. that's why they drafted that RB this year. he runs the same style offense. he should take the load off of westbrook a bit. the only concern with the rookie is how well he will do in blitz blocking. but as far as injuries are concerned, all teams go through it every year. look at big ben last year after week 3. andy reid sweating the small stuff? that's like saying there's tornado's in oklahoma in the summer. andy reid is fat. he always sweats.
steelerman....agreed, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. but the other side of that leaf is this; if that opinion doesn't make sense to me, try to make me understand. that's all i'm trying to acheive here...an explination. i thought that i've made my points clear. if i haven't, please let me know. i would be more than happy to explain.
Considering what a good job Tom Coughlin and Jerry Reese have done - The Giants winning the next 2 SuperBowls are not out of the Question. The Giants are a Top 5 team in this league and not many are going to stop them. Big Blue a Dynasty team ? I say - why not ? In most cases - Defense does win championships. The Giants have nothing less than a Championship Caliber Defense and an Offense that's as good as any other in the league. Not to mention a class (A) special teams Unit.
jason, if the Giants end up winning the next 2 super bowls, then there could be an arguement that could be made as far as a dynasty title. the way that this thread has been going has been what actually defines a dynasty. or even better put, what has to be acheived to be considered a dynasty. i can agree with you in terms of your giants defense, but saying your offense is as good as any other in the league is a bit of a stretch at this point. case and point, your (debatable) #1 receiver has career total of 65 receptions and 1 touchdown according to wikipedia.org. again, i do agree that defense wins games...that's the main reason why i felt the g-men beat the pats. but you guys got a long way to go to meet that dynasty status
Actually it's not that big of a stretch saying the Giants offense is as good as any other team. Let the facts speak for itself. The Giants have a proven QB in Eli Manning, The Offensive Line is th best in the League, They have a hand full of good recievers plus 2 promising rookies, They also have no less than 3 running backs with 1,000 yard rushing abilities between Brandon Jacobs, Ahmad Bradshaw, and Andre Brown - (A speedy talented rookie who's the same type player as Derrick Ward) They have solid Depth at every position. Granted - The Giants Offense is not Dominant, But they have proven they can be a high scoring team. The Giants also have the best coaching staff in the division. If they do win the next 2 SuperBowls - Then they will have succeeded in winning the Big game 3 out of 4 years. Isn't that the way Dallas got it done ?
I've been a Giant fan since the Y.A. Tittle days, however, I think the N.F.C. East winner is a toss-up between the Giants and Eagles at this time. I say this because of Philadelphia's great draft picks and the lack of a proven W.R. game buster in N.Y.. The defense will be within the top four of the N.F.L., but, they still have to out-score their opponents. The wild card team is Dallas. Now that the roster seems less dys-functional, I'm very curious to see how they gel this year. Their 3 headed running back tandem could be scary. soloking2
You all make good points. it certainly will be a battle, whoever wins the NFC East but with training camp almost here, time is running out to pick a winner before the season starts lol. All 4 teams in the NFC East are good but the Giants are great. I think this will be their year again.
couple things to debate with you here jason. #1 eli being proven. that is true, but to a point. he has had a a seasoned vet. WR in plaxico. i'm not gonna get into plax's gun BS. My point here is that i would like to see what eli does in this season. can he put up the numbers the same way brady did pre moss and welker. if so, then i will agree with. and if he can, i'm sure all of the NY Giants organization will breathe a big sign of relief after dropping that huge contract on eli. again, solid depth in every position i disagree with. O-line, QB, RB...perfectly fine with. when you have a receiving core when your #1 has so little career receptions, i don't call that depth. also, TE is a bit suspect. and coaching is also debatable. atleast coming from philly, alot of that arguement still remains to be seen with the outcome of jim johnson and his treatments. i also agree with your point of winning the next 2 SB. that was my whole point all along in terms of "dynasty." as far as the division goes this season, i still feel it's going to come down between the giants and Eagles again. i feel that the Redskins are going to be tougher this year and can't be counted out of the equation. the Cowboys will find themselves in a familiar position....last place. i just think that organization is falling apart. they had to let a WR go so that their QB could prove he can be a leader? i'm sorry. if he was a leader they wouldn't have to had let T.O. go.
thanks for the father's day wish. same goes to you. just curious. who are your 3 loses that you have this season. and i agree with your Eagles.....many here in philly were saying 11-5. as far as their NFC east match-ups....they split both series with the red skins and the Giants. i say they lose openinig week in carolina. and i think they get upset by both the Bears and the Falcons (both teams that i feel they should be able to beat). what i love most about this time of year is how optimistic everyone is about their squad. i'm gonna say the giants can possibly be 12-4. i say their loses are...again, split with eagles and skins. lose at Saints. and they will either lose at the least one or both games vs. carolina and arizona. so i'm saying they'll either be tied or one game ahead of the eagles. one other question i forgot to ask, what's your fullback situation? all the running that you guys do (and probably will have to do more of on account of your WR situation), needs a very good blocker.
drbds - I don't predict losses. Thats something that is hard for me to do. There are way too many factors to tend to such as injuries, game times and all of that. But I would obviously be more concerned with playing the Eagles then the Lions. I don't know who they will lose to because I believe they are talented enough to beat all of the teams on our schedule. Madison Hedgecock, aka the Beast is our fullback. He is one of the best in the NFL and should be in Hawaii this year or something is wrong.
I agree with Mock King U, predicting losses is a waste of time because there are to many variables from weekend to weekend. The bottom line is stay healthy, work out hard, listen carefully to the coaches game plan, give 100% of yourself in every game and always play like your back is against the wall. The game last year which really showed how good the Giants were, was when they beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh. If their rookie W.R.'s come thru, and the new defensive coach has them on the attack mode, they will beat the Eagles for the division and conference. soloking2
