With other programs that deal with similar issues, what you don't read in the newspaper or on ESPN is how the player is being handled by their coach. JoePa doesn't talk about it, Saban doesn't talk about it, Meyer doesn't talk about it... the issue is dealt with behind closed doorsI think I am just going to take two steps back and let BB have at it.....he is spot on with his posts...I really do not need to add anymore to this..
Not saying that at all, but tell what program you can think of that everytime a player from that team gets into trouble it is associated with 2 particular players (ie PacMan and Henry). All programs have disciplinary issues and I never said that it would go away for Stewart on the way that he is handling it. That is not even close to being the truth....

I guess I also took your post ..and correct please if Ia m wrong ..it seemed you implied that Henry and Pacman where the first two players in the West Virginia football program to get into trouble...if you beleive that to be the case ..then trust me the program has had many issues with players inthe past....and yes folks whether you wnat to beleive it or not...Don Nehlen had more than his share of player issues ...that where swept under the rug...
We have had former players do much worse than Schmitt or PacMan beleive me...Take Mark Raugh back in the day ...He was one year removed from the program...
The number of player bar fights ....missed classed etc. permeated the program..don't beleive me...ask around...ask other Wv grads when SunnySide was actually Sunnyside......I guess that is what sets me off sometimes knowing that what ever some of the players have done recently pales in comparison to the days when the stadium was on the main campus...

slaton - I was just kidding about being a tag team and I probably didn't get my points across as I wanted to. Every team has their share of problems. Do you recall when Grantis Bell had a problem at Fat Daddy's on a Friday night and on Saturday night the whole football team was lined up on the stairs and the rest is history. There were numerous other ones - football players taking the keg from a fraternity and getting in a fight, football players versus wrestlers, etc, etc, etc. My point about PacMan and Henry was - it seems to me, and maybe only me, that everytime a Mountaineer gets in trouble, whether pro or at the college level, it is associated with being cut from the same cloth as PacMan and Henry. I'm not blaming RR for it. You're right, Schmitt didn't get in trouble while in college, but the minute he gets into trouble then it's ' ohh he graduated from WVU, you know the same school that produced PacMan and Henry. He (the player in trouble) is no different". I never hear a comparison like that from other schools. I never hear when a Penn St player gets in trouble, they are not compared to any former Penn State troublemaker. That might be a poor example because there are so many of them, you can't just pick one. May be Stew doesn't need to broadcast everything about Jock, but I don't know all the circumstances about it. Jock is doing all the right things and will be better for it in the long run. Stew seems to pride himself on being a straight shooter and may be giving to much information. Maybe he needs to learn how to say more with less. Hopefully if this is the case, he will eventually get it.
I never hear a comparison like that from other schools. Really...You havenever heard anything regarding the six degrees of seperation if you played at Miami??...or Oaklahoma??...or if you played on a Bobby Petrino team??....

That again goes without saying, but I think that you feel that I'm bashing RR for bringing in Henry and PacMan. No, I understood the point you were trying to make.
All I said that Stewart may want to change the image, if he can, from what was associated with staff that preceeded him.This was the point I was referring to. I don't feel there is anything morenegative about the image of WVU than any of the other elite schools. That is why I said all of the top programs have their share of problems. The problems that WVU faces are no worse than any other elite program in the country. In fact, the problems that WVU has endured recently pale in comparison to some of the scandals out there... think Bama... FSU... OU...
Where did I mention that it was RR that brought more disgrace to WVU for bringing in Henry and Jones? You didn't mention it... I did... I inferred by your post that you believed Stewart may want to change the image of WVU... you mentioned two former players under RR... I assumed you felt that these players and their coach brought some negative attention... disgrace... to the WVU program. If I made an improper deduction... then my bad.
Stewart is still a rookie HC that has a team that was heading in the right direction in being elite. He will not handle all situations the way some of us may what it to be handle. The major difference between Stewart and the ones that you have mentioned is all of them (JoePa, Meyers, Saban, Stoops, Bowden) have elite programs and all have been around the blockWhile it is true that Stewart was a rookie HC last year... the man has been around the block for a long... long... time. If he hasn't picked up on the proper way to deal with the media when one of his players gets into trouble... then I can't come up with a valid excuse. Any coach who has been a part of the profession for as long as Stewart has... no matter what his responsibilities or position may have been... clearly can observe what his HC does in those situations over the years. You learn how to become a HC by observing those for whom you work. It is the process of becoming a leader when you are a subordinate.
It ain't rocket science.
JoePa comes out and says he unaware, he will check it out, or it's none of your business and it all goes away. Do you seriously thing Stewart can get away with any of that? Yes, I do. And, I would have had more respect for him had he done so. I mean who are we talking about when it comes to the press... Stephanie Loh... Mitch Vingle... Bob Hertzel...? Who are they?
