Told it's almost official, Scuderi to the Kings, Penguins looking for another defenseman, Marc-Andre Bergeron available, possibility? It should be if it's not.
I apologize again to any fans, players, GMs, etc of whom I may offend by misspelling their names.
If you misspell Kim Johnsson's name in next year's FA thread, I will be deeply offended:) If you forget whether his last name has one "s" or two in it, the sure-fire memory aid is to remember that "salary cap boat anchor of a contract" only has one "s" in it even though he defends more like two anchors.
I apologize in advance to any useful boat anchors that I may have offended with this post.
Isn't that less than what the Stars had on the table? Nothing against the Kings (maybe a little), but they are still in a questionable rebuilding stage. I would think a established player would rather go to a team that is a little closer to the overall goal. What do I know though. I hear L.A. is nice.
It appears that the initial report (although I have heard no details thus far about duration or price of the contract) is that the deal is for less than the Stars reportedly offered. Keep in mind, the Stars may have leaked a higher offering price than reality. Many teams employ that strategy to scare off on-the-fence competitors for the free-agents they want. It could happen to be in the same area the Stars offered. I should be getting details shortly.
Penguins would be wise to stay away from Marc-Andre Bergeron unless he's taking a good size pay cut. His slap shot is overrated, and he was a decidedly mediocre, undersized blueliner for the Wild last year. Kurtis Foster would be a much better choice IMO; I'm kinda miffed that we didn't re-up him before the FA deadline. Foster's horrific leg injury earlier should be a non-issue now; he came back OK at the end of last season, and he'll have had another full offseason to get himself good as new.
I still personally like Bergeron, Warped. I like Foster, but I don't think he has proven enough to get a serious look from the Penguins. He has never played more than 58 games in a season, and for three-consecutive seasons lost production while playing in 56, 57, and 58 games. I like him, but he is too much of a risk for a team looking to replace a guy like Scuderi.
