Haren's having an awesome year and, statistically speaking, is the most valuable pitcher in my Yahoo league. But he's also definitely a first half pitcher- remember 2007 when he was easily the best pitcher in baseball in the first half, started the all star game, and then went 5-6 with a 4.15 ERA in the second half.
Because idiots are trying to convince everyone that Tim Wakefield is a legitimate All Star, he should start the All Star Game, and that he may be a Hall of Fame pitcher.
No one talks about Dan Haren because he doesn't get any run support. If the Diamondbacks actually scored runs when he pitched, he'd get a lot more recognition.
The same goes for Javier Vazquez and Jair Jurrjens. If the Braves offense could actually muster a few runs when these guys pitched, their W-L record would be more in line with their ERA's.

If you are a West Coast team and you are under .500, you will not get talked about. Dodgers and Giants get talked about because their good this year. Mariners haven't been talked about since they won 116 or so games a few years back.
I hope you are joking. If not, you should have your posting rights revoked. Haren is a beast, but like all the others said, his run supoort and terrible team keep him lost. He also doesn't have the quirkiness of Tim Lincecum. I also agree that he is a 1st half pitcher, but these numbers are unreal.
East Coast BiasUsually, i'm ready to jump all over this one, but this time, I don't think it is the case at all.
Heath BellJason Marquis and David Aardsma are three other pitchers having fantastic seasons that no one talks about.Very true. BUT, what do they have in common? That being, and others have mentioned this, their teams are not winning! Winners get the pub, losers get the snub.
Hmmm, why is nobody talking abot Dan Haren? +Hmmm, why is nobody talking abot Dan Haren? Gammons just had an article the other day about why he thinks Haren is the legit Cy Young...
Padres are terrible, but Seattle and Colorado are in the mix. I don't care for the losing teams, either, but I want to hear when a pitcher or hitter is having a great year. Luke Hochevar, when he pitched the complete game throwing 80 pitches. Dan Haren, and his Cy-Young season. David Aardsma never had a save before this year. Heath Bell was a mop-up pitcher with the Mets and is now one of the best closers this year. Joel Piniero throwing a two hitter, but ESPN ignoring it. When I watch SportsCenter, I want to see and hear more about these amazing feats, instead of seeing the New Yorks, Bostons, and Los Angeles taking up 90 percent of the show.
Gammons just had an article the other day about why he thinks Haren is the legit Cy Young... But....., he probably thinks that of Wakefield as well. So.........?
i'm a Sox fan, and I love Wake. He's been on the Sox since '95, and I haven't looked into it, but I'm pretty sure he's the longest tenured player in baseball. And it's awesome to see him strike people out with his 75 mph fastball.
Nobody is talking about Dan Haren, because he is on a team that is 14 games under .500. I think that plenty of people that know baseball know how good he is, but the Giants and their 170 (maybe), 99 MPH fastball are a great story this year. If you want to get noticed, get out of the desert.
