Michael Lombardi might have to quit putting titles on business cards as he now has his third title in six weeks.

Lombardi, who was named Vice President—Player Personnel on January 18, 2013—is now the team’s General Manager. Before joining the Browns, he was an analyst on the NFL Network.

Meanwhile, Ray Farmer was named the Assistant General Manager. In his role, Farmer will work closely with Lombardi, where he will help manage both the pro and college scouting departments.

Banner said that in order to hire Farmer away from the Chiefs, the move had to be more than a lateral move. Thus Lombardi was given the title of General Manager and Farmer Assistant General Manager.

“There is no change in Mike’s responsibilities,” Banner said in a conference call. “Te change in Mike’s title was necessitated to add Ray to get permission from Kansas City. We interviewed Ray for the position (of GM). I’ve always admired Ray and have been working on this for a little while.”

Farmer was interviewed before the Browns named Lombardi as the VP of Player Personnel.

“Ray is highly regarded in league circles as an outstanding evaluator of talent,” said Banner. “We had the opportunity to meet with Ray in our initial search for a general manager and came away extremely impressed. I have known Ray since he played with us in Philadelphia, and I am familiar with the type of person he is, his work ethic and his knowledge of the game. We are very fortunate that we were able to add someone of Ray’s caliber to our personnel staff.”

Farmer was the [Kansas City Chiefs]’ Director of Pro Personnel from 2006-12. During his tenure with the Chiefs, Farmer was responsible for scouting all players with professional experience, evaluating current players in the NFL, Canadian Football League and all other pro leagues. Prior to joining the Chiefs, Farmer spent four seasons (2002-05) as a pro scout with the [Atlanta Falcons].

“He will be an integral part in all of the decisions we have to make regarding personnel,” Banner said. “He is a top evaluator of talent in the NFL.”

Farmer’s connection to Banner is he played for the Eagles after being a fourth-round draft choice of the Eagles in the 1996 NFL Draft, Farmer played three seasons (1996-98) at linebacker for the Eagles, appearing in 32 games with 16 starts before a knee injury ended his career.

Gloom, despair, and agony on me
Deep, dark depression, excessive misery
If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all

The Bills and the Browns haven’t squared off for a meaningful game in years, if not decades.  But Cleveland recently beat Buffalo in another entertainment-related arena.

According to Mark Sommer of the Buffalo News, Hollywood has decided not to make the Bills the centerpiece of the film Draft Day.  Instead, [the honor will go to the Browns].

Kevin Costner, star of iconic baseball films like Field of Dreams, Bull Durham, and WaterWorld (it’s about the [fountains] at Royals stadium, right?), will play the G.M. of the Browns.  He was going to play the G.M. of the Bills.

“At the end of the day, it was a money thing,” said Tim Clark, head of the Buffalo Niagara Film Commission.  “I think [Ivan] Reitman really wanted to shoot here, but it just came down to the cost factor.  What we were told is that the Cleveland incentives were better.

“I feel the worse for the Buffalo Bills, because they worked real hard to convince the film company that Buffalo was the place to shoot this, and that Buffalo was America’s team.”

The movie was switched to Ohio because of money.  Filming in Cleveland resulted in better [tax incentives].

Then again, there’s a chance it’s not a real movie at all.  It could be cover for sneaking Dennis Rodman out of the United States.  Permanently.

Sorry to hear that bluez...we were supposed to get 6-8 inches and we didn't see a single flake...this has been a weird winter in our small slice of Ohio...knock on wood, we have missed every major storm front this season...I think we have a total of around 12 inces of snow all winter...never more than 4 inches at a time...

Hope you are all safe out there!!

We didn't get hit too hard over here in Newark...couple inches of snow, with a bit of ice under it.  Not nearly as bad as the forecast had predicted.....

Have to admit I didn't think they stood much of a chance (but better than Jim Carey's of getting the girl in Dumb and Dumber).  Seems the Buckeyes are capable of beating or losing to anyone.

the Buckeyes too care of bussiness last night . it's a good thing i have a backup college basketball team as my beloved Dayton Flyers wont even make the NIT this year unless they can kick some ass in the A10 Tournament if they even make it . they are on the bubble . the A10 takes the top 10 teams to Atlantic City for there tournament . Dayton is hovering around the 10 spot right now .

Made one more change.....Look at Lunard'is latest bracketology. I liked his region for OSU (though I'd prefer he switch Michigan and OSU).

I heard one of ESPN's college hoops "experts" say that, because the Big 10 teams have beat-up on each other all season, he didn't expect to see any team get out of the sweet 16 round.  I gotta say, that makes no sense to me at all.  I'd be surprised if we didn't see at least a couple of Big 10 teams advance past that round, if not more....I guess time will tell.
