Many of YOU have been sickingly (is this even a word, Father of Twins?) attached to the idea that Lawrence Timmons represents a viable candidate for the AFC Team in the Pro Bowl in 2009! One of you even went as far as to propose a wager that should young Mr. Timmons be elected to the Pro Bowl that maybe I need to change my avatar to represent the young lad for 1 year, or was that me, I forget! DONE! Not only do I accept him being "elected" to the Pro Bowl as the wager, but I'll accept those consequences even if he is brought on as a TOWEL BOY!
Now, in order for me to keep track of how many avatars I GET TO CREATE, oh yeah did I forget to mention the backside of this wager? If you are up to the bet, than you MUST sign in on this thread as being on my side or Timmons' (beachbum312 is appareantly his fan club's president ). Should Mr. Timmons not represent the Steelers at the 2009 Pro Bowl than anyone who took this wager on that side will get to wear a jackal created AV that I feel best represents YOUR screen name! Length of the wager - 1 full calendar year from the date the squads for the '09 PB are announced!
Steeler Rookie of the year I have some interest in. My best guess is Stefan Logan or Mike Wallace.
The Pro Bowl is a joke, Ben made it in 2007 w/ 32 TD's.... big whoop-de-doo, one and done in the playoffs. He only threw 17 in 2008 but took home the hardware. That is what we are about, Lombardi trophies, these personal achievements are nice for when these guys retire, or when the HOF committee is looking at the resume..... but to me it is winning the big gold trophy with surrounded by confetti at the end.
I am on neither side of this one, middle of the fence. However I am with Truth on the anti-Colbert discussions. Bruce Davis huh??? We could have drafted Anthony Collins instead and we would not be staring at the wire now looking for Tra Thomas to clear. I think he did a good job but ignored the trenches for a few drafts, that is my gripe. We have not taken an Offensive lineman in the first two rounds since we drafted Kendall Simmons. Part of it was Cowher pushing for guys like Willie Reid.... but I can blame Colbert for Allan Rossum and Sean Mahan along with Buster and Humpal. Just BONE HEAD moves.
Alright, jackal, let's do it! I'm your huckleberry.
If, though, we are doing this your way there needs to be some concessions made. If Timmons misses more than 3 games due to injury, then the bet is off. I will not be forced to wear some jackal inspired abomination for a year because an athlete twists his ankle! lol.
There is no way Timmons makes the Pro Bowl this year. Not with Ray Ray still eligible. Timmons is still behind James Harrison, Lamar Woodley, and James Farrior in pecking order. Harrison and Farrior went last year. Jackal's right, there's no way. Also, as an inside linebacker, he's not getting huge sack numbers or INTs. Now if he played for Dallas, he would be a shoe-in.
Don't let Jackal twist this thing around. Last year they selected two ILBs for the Pro Bowl out of how many eligible players? This was never a "bet". It was you and I describing Timmons as a Pro-bowl talent and Jackal staking his beloved avatar on the opposite. The odds are OVERWHELMINGLY in his favor. You would be a fool to take the bet and a bigger fool to take it without knowing what avatar you will have to sport. Imagine having a Tom Brady likeness for 12 months?
Don't do it. The Pro Bowl is a popularity contest. It is not a "True Measure" of a players worth to his team. Jackal thinks Timmons over-persues, misses tackles, and is an over-all liability to the defense. I'd define/ work out w/ Jackal a definition of what a successful season for Timmons would be and take a bet, but not on the Pro-Bowl.
Hey, I'm in. Yes, the odds are against me, but its just a picture, guys! lol. I know jackal won't be a complete jackazz if I lose, just like I wouldn't make him sport anything unbecoming.
Don't say I didn't warn ya when Tom Bradyovercomes multiple injuries to lead his team to the playoffs, thus becoming a manosteel worthy of your avatar!
Okay, here's the deal with Timmons, and why I think its reasonable, although not likely, that he makes the Pro Bowl.
Yes, its a popularity contest, to an extent, but what it really is is a glamor contest. The fans, players and coaches will vote for the players who make the biggest splash. The players who make the spectacular plays regularly are often the ones who go to the Pro Bowl. Not necessarily the consistent, hard nosed players like Aaron Smith and Ike Taylor. You get guys who have big sack numbers or INT numbers because those are the plays everybody remembers.
I fully expect Lawrence Timmons to struggle in his gap integrity early in the year, but I also expect his athleticism and pass rushing ability to contribute some big plays to this defense. In a limited capacity last year he had 5 sacks, an INT and a forced fumble. As a 3 down player, I expect those numbers to increase dramatically. No less than 8-10 sacks, 3-5 INTs and a couple of forced fumbles. That, along with the 90+ tackles he should get as an ILB in our system will put him right in line with what the Pro Bowl voters are looking for. He already has the eyes of the nation's media. How many times have we heard his name mentioned as the potential breakout player this year? His name is on the minds of the players and coaches of opposing teams. If he puts up the numbers he should, and makes the splash plays he's capable of, he could very well earn himself a Pro Bowl, even if he never quite gets that gap integrity and block shedding ability that jackal is so hung up on.
Right now I'm more impressed with Keyaron Fox than with Lawrence Timmons. He looks to be able to shed blockers better to stop the run. Timmons may be faster but Fox looks stronger. If Timmons is unable to play in the opener against the Titans, Fox could use this oppurtunity to take the starting spot ahead of Timmons. I guess I'm not completely sold on Timmons and can't see him as a pro bowler this season (I hope he proves me wrong). GO Steelers!
Actually Jackal my bet to you was Timmons would have better stats this year then Foote had last year. (tackles, sacks Int's)
That bet is still on the table.
The probowl bet is IMO a cop out bet. The probowl rewards the flavor of the month. Timmons might very well be deserving of the probowl, but doubt he gets it as a first year starter, and having Woodley and Harrison presumably getting a long look at ProBowl consideration that will also hurt his case.
I know jackal won't be a complete jackazz if I lose, just like I wouldn't make him sport anything unbecoming. Suuuuure, I have a reputation for NOT being out in right field on certain things, so there is NO WAY I would create anything you didn't DESERVE!

That bet is still on the table. Fairly poor standard by which you are willing to hold Lawrence Timmons to, no? How about we make it at least somewhat a competitive wager for both sides. What say we take the average of the top 4 AFC ILB numbers from 2008? What say you? I am sure we can figure out the numbers with the help of beachbum312!!! Remember, I NEVER said I was a huge Larry Foote fan either!

I think it's the perfect bet Player A replaces player B and it's an upgrade or not . You think that Timmons will be a step back from Foote So lets compare the stats of the two player involved?
I have never taunted Timmons as the next great ILB of all time, I'm just not worried about him replacing Foote.
