Well I guess the tight end situation has sorted itself out with David Thomas being traded to the Saints. Then when you think that solves the issues the team signs another tight end Michael Matthews from the Giants!!!
The Saints will give the Patriots an undisclosed draft choice in 2011 (I am thinking maybe a 6th rounder) which is what the Patriots are offering for Michael Mitchell. (An undisclosed, must be a 7th I have never heard of Mitchell!)
This is a real head scratcher. I would think that if they didn't like the TE spot they could have made this move a lot sooner. The third tight end has no experience in the system getting ready to go into week one. Plus we are down a 5th rounder thanks to the release of the other guy.
MR or the Globe says he is a blocking TE for pass protection purposes.
We really haven't gotten much out of the TE spot for a while. With Moss and Welker can't say we really need a pass catching tight end I guess.
he is a blocking TE for pass protection purposesThere is no doubt that is the answer but it makes me wonder if the lead blocker/H-back in the backfield experiment is over and we will be running one back sets. Neither Benjamin Watson nor Chris Baker strike me as being players who would be good doing that, David Thomas was.
Some wierd moves by the Patriotsshould have been spelled "weird" someday I'll learn how to type correctly. Michael Mitchell may be a salary cap move, he will make a heck of lot less than either Alex Smith or David Thomas. I don't know right now...a blocking TE/FB is the guess, Benjamin Watson and Chris Baker will be the pass catching sides of the position, and they'll use him and Watson for two TE blocking schemes.
Very disappointed in Shawn Crable going down again. Next year will be it for him, he'll either show up at OTAs being a beast or he'll be gone by summer.
Oh man... my heart just sunk when I saw that Shawn Crable was placed on IR. WTH is that all about? Are we ever going to see this guy make a contribution to the team?
Looks like more question marks for the defense... just friggin' perfect!
Hey Pats fans, what kind of player is David Thomas? It's hard to say. We didn't get to see too much of him. He did make a few big plays though. I'd say you guys scored yourselves a solid, blue collar play maker.
